Because he is unbeaten. Whenever a fighter is unbeaten there will always be a large number of people who will never give them their respect or due until they lose a fight. Of course, some will never give it them no matter who they beat or fights when they finally lose the haters will say"I knew wasn't that good".. This happened to Jones, Mayweather, Trinidad, Delahoya, and I see some of it happening to Cotto as well. I think it's a combination of loyal fans hyping them too much as well as haters who will never be impressed with their performances or career. I saw one poster say Calzaghe's career was a " joke" but has had impressive wins. That makes no sense lol.Comment

It comes down to popularity and success in my opinion.
When people become successful like Joe has, undefeated in 45 fights, 2 weight Linear Champion etc. they become more popular and gain more fans. Some bitter little twats who think they're "real" boxing fans get upset and try to go against the grain so to speak, because they think they're "different". They try so hard to be "different" that they end up hating Calzaghe.
Liking Calzaghe is unfashionable because he has so many fans - admittedly, he has fans that are ****** and dont have a clue about boxing. But that comes with the territory, if you become successful, you become famous and you attract more casual fans or "nuthuggers" - ie not proper boxing fans. This upsets people. But at the end of the day, its not Joe's fault.
Thats why people like Junior Witter get little underground followings on boxing forums because hes seen as someone whos struggled to gain recognition and come up the hard way etc etc. I can gurantee you that pre-Lacy Calzaghe would've got more positive threads on these very forums from the very same haters.Comment

Fans like punchers, and Floyd and Cal have skills far beyond anything Pac can ever dream. When Pac fights a live opponent in his prime, let me know. No more old men, no more Diaz's. Floyd and Cal made their bones beating prime guys, Pac beat name fighters who were once great but were shadows of themselves. When is PAc going to fight Valero or Guzman? When. Floyd and Joe don't know what it is to lose. They had fights where they thought the other guy won, but didn't. Castillo and hop gave Floyd and Cal good fights. Pav talks about fighting Joe, but wants to fight him at a catch weight lol. He wants a 36 year old man to move down in weight lol. Well if you think you can beat Cal PAv, go up to 175 you tallheaded bumper car headed, brontosaurus brain.Comment
