Ok Povetkin is scheduled to fight Wlad next, isnt he? Mandatory for the IBF Belt. So I doubt that's viable. Sam Peter is the WBC Champ. Pretty tough fight for your second fight at heavyweight coming up and Peter has said he's moving straight on to Vitali Klitscko anyway so thats out the window.
Other than that, only Sultan Ibragimov is ranked above Maskaev by the Ring Magazine which is the most reliable rating system.
Im glad to see Wlad has side-stepped all these options too to fight the highly ranked, very youthful, spring chicken that is Tony Thompson.

Haye also refused to fight Tua.
Wlad has to fight Thompson because he's his mandatory.
Those fighters I mentioned are all younger and healthier than old Oleg. Oleg may be ranked by a sanctioning organization or two because of what he's done in the past, but right now he's a shot old fighter who's had serious injuries and hasn't won a fight since 2006.Last edited by The Hammer; 07-07-2008, 02:32 PM.Comment

No he didnt. Where has Povetkin ever expressed a desire to fight Haye?
Dont believe that either. Even still. What the **** has Tua done in the last 5 years thats relevent? At least Maskaev beat Rahman and was only recently the WBC Champion.
Haye said he'll fight a top 10 ranked opponent. He's doing that.
I just find it funny that you criticise Haye for fighting someone old in what is designed as a warm up fight to grow into the division yet Wlad is fighting a similar opponent and calling it a wolrd heavyweight championship match.

I think it says something about the Heavyweight division when Oleg Maskaev can still be ranked #7 by Ring Magazine. Should'nt we be glad Haye is going to help him retire? Even if Haye is a **** talking bisexual black englishman boxing needs him in the Heavyweight division to shake things up.Comment
