They make zero sense. THey are the most irresponsible comments made by a boxer I can remember. What Mayweather said seriously undermines HBO coverage, and theres no reason to do it.

    • So what you're saying is that because you're paying your money, a fighter should always stand toe to toe and trade.

Dont' tell that to Sugar Ray Leonard then.

What some of you don't get is that there are many ways to box hence why the sport is called the sweet science. There are sluggers, there are boxers, there are guys that run, there are guys who have lead feet, etc.

I personally think some of the criticism Floyd for example gets is warranted. He'll say he's gonna ambush you and he'll pretty much outbox you to a victory. Ok, for the fan looking for a rock'em, sock'em brawl that may be disappointing.

I see it that perhaps he sees that what he thought would work isnt going to work.

Hell Dela Hoya thought he had enough of a lead on the scorecards against Trinidad and didn't want to trade. That strategy backfired on him. The point is that some guys can adapt and whether thats crowd pleasing or not is a preference.

I say guys should learn how to cut off the damn ring if they feel that the person they're facing is a runner.

IN Winky Wrights case, I personally love how he can control guys with a jab. Winky doesn't run, he doesn't commit enough on his punches but it keeps him in great defensive position to counter right back.

Why should a guy change what works for him??

Also, I box and no fan is going to dictate to me how I should box. They're not the ones waking up in the morning running, they're not the ones thats going to cover my medical bills if I'm injured. If you don't like it, don't buy the product, simple as that. Go watch some human ****fighting..

      • I brought in Margarito because you have him in your sig and have the NERVE to try and besmirch Winky who has much more career success than Margarito could EVER have. Thats why.

So heres the facts, boxing isn't a fun spot unless guys are loading up right?? Thats such BS.

Like I said, I don't think it's about race and I think Floyd and Winky could have articulated their points better. But I will say that theres validity in them saying HBO has bias. Do you agree or not??

In Floyd's comments, he's DEAD on in discussing how the "HYPOCRITY BOXING ORGANIZATION" often introduced the negative aspects of his life ("the club case leading up to the Gatti fight") but some how Lampley beating his wife's ass and have weed on him didn't ever make the air.

I'll ask this, why is it that you never hear anyone say the SHOWTIME guys (Bernstein and Albert) aren't fair but when it comes to HBO ,heck after any big fight you can see countless threads regarding them.

          • 100%

They are right. Racial bias is innate. You can consciously deny it, but it's within us all.

            • I don't know if its about race. Its mainly cuz of Floyd's personality. Then he ****ted on Larry Merchant after the Baldomir fight. Larry Merchant's a ****head in my opinion. Idk if he's racist though. And I don't know how Lampley is.

They do kinda have their favoritism though.

              • According to floyd & winky… HBO crew are RACIST and against black fighters?

Lennox & Manny – are African-American-British or in short black (to name a few who work as commentators on some matches)

Or is there any other reason why they are whining? RECOGNITION maybe? I think so….

Ok let’s take a look at some significant fights that they fought before I tell the main reason why they are hungry of recognition.

Floyd vs. Baldomir – I witness an extra ordinary happening on this fight. Paying FANS are leaving their seats just before the fight ends. Worst they are booing the performance of the so called POUND for POUND king (running and not engaging much against an older and limited skill opponent). Is that racist? I don’t think so. Coz I’ve seen some of our black brothers and sisters are disappointed too and booing him.

Winky vs Hopkins – well what can I say. Let’s be honest, sometimes we hate judges decision coz there's always a doubt on how they see the fight. But the so called ‘pizzazz style of boxing’ of Mr. Winky does not get the nod of the judge’s always. Now here’s the problem, he complains about it and according to him its bias. Hey lets not forget Mr. Hopkins is black. Is it racist? Naaaaaahh…

The common denominator of these two whining is that they want recognition. Maybe they feel less appreciated. Both are excellent fighters and gifted with great skill. The problem is since both have unbelievable skill they never implement or imposed their greatness against their opponent. What I mean is that they are overwhelming favorites against some of their opponents but the hype never live up to most fans expectation. In short BORING. Who wants to watch a boring fight? Fans wants them to fight the best available opponent but they reason out of lack of money or star power or what name it….

For Floyd, He talks about his accomplishment from his amateur-pro days. Well we already knew his achievements. The problem is he wants us to recognize it, worship him as great boxer and glorify it. He talks about his greatness and belittle others achievements like Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson, etc…. Sad but true. Now you know why he complains about racism in the sport. He only masks it as racism but the truth is he wants attention & RECOGNITION. Sad little freak. Who are you fooling? Fight the contenders at your class not the grumpiest past their prime cash cows.

Winky demands more (purse) but give less to the FANS. Winky complains of under-appreciated. Hey ask the fans moron. It’s them who pay to watch not HBO. Most fans want action. They don’t want pizzazz style of yours. Blame yourself for being less appreciated. Opppss, Pernell had the same style “the defensive style” but we love it. why? Coz he still impose his offense after defense. In short counter.

                FORGIVE MY ENGLISH..

                • The point of the matter is that Floyd and Winky seem to have a case, all you have to do is listen to the commentating. After the Hatton/Floyd fight watch when Merchant, Steward, and Lampley are standing outside the ring before Floyd comes over, they look sick to their stomach, speechless, wishing Floyd had lost. Boxing is an art, its dumb not to use defense and just slug it out, HBO only cares about money, the more knockouts you have, obviously the better your ratings are going to be. If anybody cant see that they are bias just goes to show they dont want to see it or they do see it but arnt going to voice it. Every fight I watch in the first round if the fighters arnt toe to toe, Larry Merchant lets you know it and gives a negative comment about it. These comments are way past due and should have been said long ago, but people realize they have mouths to feed and dont speak up, but since Floyd is retired and has a buttload of money he doesnt worry about whatever repercussions his comments can have.

                  • This is a taboo subject long ignored by boxing writers and enthusiasts. While it shouldn't be emphasized at the expense of the majority of expert and objective commentary, it goes without saying that these two are spot on. In other words, Wright is right.
