But I Don't Think That Was Enough To Beat Then Middleweight Champ Hagler.
It Wasn't A Highway Robbery, But Nonetheless A Disputed Loss.
    True........

Also, I was just little kid when the Hagler vs. Leonard fight happened so I don't know all of the details. Was it Hagler that refused to fight Leonard again? I know Leonard fought a few times after he fought Hagler.. Please excuse my ignorance on the subject.
Touché yourself. I might also be a little biased on SRL and Vitali.

SRL's fights after Hagler was 'single' fights in a way. Come-backs.

When I think of it now I might actually be inclined to think that SRL in fact did duck Hagler. I really dont think SRL liked Hagler at all.

That's kind of the way I remember hearing that it went down. Thanks for the clarification.

        Well, I guess we're both nutthuggers then..J/k....

Your right in that SRL didn't like Hagler. In fact the feeling was mutual. I saw a post-fight interview and Hagler said that he couldn't believe that they would "rob" him of the fight and give it to Leonard of all people. He really hated Leonard and I think he just wanted to beat the snot out of him which is in part, why he lost the fight.

Take what I say with a grain of salt... All of my so-called "knowledge" on this subject is from youtube videos and old ESPN classic videos...

          No problem.

I'm pretty sure Hagler is still bitter about the decision and the fact that Leonard didn't give him a rematch, it's a shame really because I would have loved to see a second fight.

Really the amazing thing is that Hagler should have killed leonard. And everyone thought he would. Even if you thought hagler won you gotta give credit to leonard for accomplishing the impossible.

-Leonard hadn't fought in three years and was coming out of retirement.
-Leonard was a welterweight and was stepping up to 160. He really had no business messin around with a psycho like Hagler!
-Hagler hadn't lost a fight in 11 years (was 62-2 at the time!).

Leonard had the perfect game plan and executed it perfectly.

Yeah, I think he tries to go with the "the fans know who really won" mentality but I imagine that it doesn't always work for him. I hope he's not as bitter as Fraizier is towards Ali though.... I find it haunting how upset he still is to this day, over what he and Ali had been through. Joe just can't let it go.

Definitely got to give him credit for that, he was also very smart because he saw how brutal the Mugabi fight was and knew that Hagler would be feeling the effects of that fight for a long time.

And he and his manager totally out negotiated the Petronellis.

Very good points. I'm sure that everyone thought Hagler was going to destroy Leonard. Leonard must have done his homework and just known that he could beat this guy.... Gotta give him props. I really like both fighters but I have a slight bias towards Hagler. The man was just such a badass mother ****er! Nobody is comparable to him at the moment IMO..

Yep, he waited till hagler started showing his age a little bit. And they definitely out negotiated them - smaller pay, BUT bigger ring, bigger gloves and 12 rounds instead of 15! If it was a 15 rounder I think Leonard would have passed out for sure.

I hope he isn't either although I doubt it because Frazier literally hates Ali, even though Hagler doesn't like Leonard, I don't think Leonard got under Hagler's skin as much as Ali did to Frazier.
