Opinions on Boxing

i want it to be. i know we get a kick out of it being "our" sport and we don't care for "casual" fans to much but if we want it to stay alive we do.
i think the change in rules in olympic boxing might have hurt the publics view of how great and fun to watch boxing is.
the 1 point system imo makes it more boring to watch olympic boxing and olympic boxing was a showcase for people that weren't boxing fans.
they tune in to watch gymnastics or swimming or whatever and they see a boxer that's exciting and they end up following the guy's career. some of our sports biggest stars made their splash and entered public view in the olympics. ali , leonard and oscar being great examples of boxers adored by the public who weren't generally boxing fans. i'm sure watching foreman pummel the russian guy in the olympics added to his mystique as a "bad man".
floyd is making it more mainstream i grant him that. that dancing with the stars and talk shows helped boxing get in the news more.Comment

yeah i admit it was probably a bad choice of words. i explained to the other guy i should've said "wary of" instead. You know what, I guess the only thing I don't agree with is that Mayweather is afraid of Cotto. You said "probably" and I guess it could be a possibility but I don't see anything for him to be afraid of. As pissed off as I am at Floyd for retiring, I just don't think he is afraid of him. I really think he'll be back in a year or so to fight a huge fight, hopefully Cotto if he keeps winning.
Those are all pretty logical statements that you made and I guess I pretty much agree with all of it.
if i was floyd to be honest with you , i wouldn't be afraid either. his speed and defense is enough to compete with anybody up to 160. 160 might be a stretch but his skills are comparable to roy and roy could've a competed well up to cruiser and did beat a limited but solid heavy.Comment

I admire Floyd because he should me as a boxing fan that you dont need size to win or speed but rather how to use you advantage over your oppenets.yeah i admit it was probably a bad choice of words. i explained to the other guy i should've said "wary of" instead.

There is many thing people are unaware of Floyd's abilityComment

the last time i questioned his ability was before the corrales fight.
i don't like him personally though but that has nothing to do with boxing skills.
his skills are up there with the atg but his resume , not entirely his fault , can't compete with the atg's however.
his best wins for me were castillo at 135 , corrales at 130 , de la hoya at 154. in that order. i know oscar is past prime but he's the biggest name in boxing and was a 130 , 135 , 140 , 147 , 154 and 160 titlist!
if zab wasn't such a numbnut sometimes and hadn't lost his belt to baldomir , floyd's win over zab at 147 would've been there as well.Comment

I think Floyd has a deal or hidden contract with the WBC even though he won the IBF after winning Zab Judah he vacanted it.the last time i questioned his ability was before the corrales fight.

and nearly all the title he won are WBC title from 130 to 154.Comment

When I re-read that part of the post, I saw what you were getting at. The first time I read it to quickly I think. I agree with you!yeah i admit it was probably a bad choice of words. i explained to the other guy i should've said "wary of" instead.

I just hope he fights Cotto.

great post tua, i agree with most of your post, just slight disagreements that are common because this is a forum.
lets see i do not think kelly pavlik will lose that soon, but i dont think he will ever be someone considered an ATG or will remain undefetead, still i think he fights like the old time guys so i love his fights.
I agree with almost everything you said about tua, too bad he didnt get another title shot it sucks, i think he could have beat a post prison tyson but not a prime tyson. Very similar styles but prime tyson too quick for tua, even tough i think tua has a little more power.
of course the floyd situation always raises a lot of comments, i am not really a fan of him but he is sure a skilled boxer and i am not sure if he would duck cotto or not, but i do know it was a real let down, i mean his last fight was against the big show hahaha the cotto fight would have been great for the sport, dont be like that.
I agree about JC vs prime toney and RJJ. Toney was too hard to hit, Roy was Roy enough said.
Tarver its good but not that good
I dont like mayorga but he is entretaining no question about it
emm what else, oh yeah pacquiao would beat most of them, i cant wait for a pacquiao marquez rematch though i really think marquez should have won but thats just an opinion, edwin is just too wild has possibilities but i dont think he can beat pac, joan guzman its really good that would be a great fight.
dont remember anything else i have to read the first post again hahaha
great post tua man
keep em comingComment

oh yeahh hopkins and klitchko
hopkins yeah was really good but not an ATG for me, i dont know how he still is in the p4p list, he was great but for me it wasnt really entretaining and way too dirty, which its not bad its a style but its just no my thing, his resume its good but not enough for an all timer.
I think the heavys are gonna be really hard to revive, i mean boxing its making a greaaat comeback and i am really happy about it but, the heavyweight division its just not having it. Maybe it will gain a little more atention with a newcomer but still i dont think it will be getting more attention than the lower weights any time soonComment
