Some random thoughts on today's boxers from Left Hook Tua:
1. Floyd Mayweather is probably scared to fight Miguel Cotto but it might be a good thing for us Cotto fans because Floyd would more than likely beat Miguel right now. There is a reason for Floyd's retirement , whether hand injury or financial dispute and gamesmanship with Oscar , and will be back in about a year or so. Floyd will not stay retired nor would he be undefeated when he finally does.
2. Joe Calzaghe in his prime would never have even come closing to beating a prime Roy Jones Jr. or even a prime James Toney. Very doubtful he would beat Bernard Hopkins prime vs. prime as well.
3. Bernard Hopkins is very good fighter and is definitely a HOFer but he is not an all-time great and his resume is overrated. The middleweight division was very weak during his reign and his biggest wins at middleweight was against naturally smaller men like Felix Trinidad who is a natural welterweight and Oscar de la Hoya who's first fight as a pro was at 130.
4. Manny Pacquiao is being accused of ducking fighters like Humberto Soto , Edwin Valero and Joan Guzman but the truth is he would probably beat all 3 and aside from maybe Guzman , who could be a tough fight for manny , he would beat them pretty decisively.
5. Miguel Cotto fans are too busy celebrating the fact that Floyd retired and too busy claiming fear of Cotto as the reason for Floyd's retirement that they are overlooking the fact that Miguel could probably lose to Margarito. I'm sorry but I don't see Cotto beating Antonio. I see a Margarito TKO/KO in the late rounds. I hope I'm wrong though because even though I'm a fan of both , I admit I'm more of a Cotto fan.
6. Antonio Tarver is a good , solid fighter nothing more. He received too much credit for beating a guy much greater than him who he was just a bad matchup for.
7. Vernon Forrest same as above.
8. Ricardo Mayorga is the best and most entertaining loser of this era. He beat guys he was suppose to and loses to the big names in very entertaining fashion. Has anyone ever made a better career as "the opponent" or been more entertaining/annoying while promoting a fight? Zab Judah could've challenged him for this title but Zab Judah is not as good as Mayorga at putting the "black hat" nor is he as entertaining.
9. David Tua if he had stayed in shape , had a better promoter and manager and trained harder/better , would have been a multiple time belt holder in the heavyweight division. It is sad he has only had one title shot his whole career and that shot was against Lennox Lewis. He koed prime Hasim Rahman , Oleg Maskaev and John Ruiz who all had multiple belts or chances at the belt multiple times. If he hadn't gotten fat and lazy , he would've beaten Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson in the early 2000's if he had been given a chance at big money fights with those guys.
10. Wladimir Klitschko will be the key to the start of a new exciting era in heavyweight boxing. Not by unifying the division and being the man , which he might , but by losing to the guy that will rejuvenate the heavyweight division. Wladimir is well skilled and very good but he could never capture the world's attention as the champ but I have a feeling the guy who beats him will. I do not know who that will be but if the guy that beats Wlad is young enough he could be the one that adds excitement to the division again.
This is just some random opinions of mine and that is all it is my opinions. I'm not trying to flame here. I'm just really bored and the current threads we have don't interest me or are just crap. Feel free to discuss or change my opinion and tell me what you think of my opinions in the poll above.
