I say fight Pav at 160. You get a chance to meet one of the best young champs in boxing. You get to keep your 147 lb title, and if you win, you are the middleweight champ.

Williams is used to taking punches (and he takes a lot of them) from guys he outweighs by 10 lbs. Against Pavlik he would be the one outweighed by 10 lbs.

Margarito is a good welterweight as well but he was having quite a bit of trouble at LMW against Daniel Santos who is no Kelly Pavlik.
Moving up will work wonders for Paul......

Pauls favorite sparring partner is Glen Johnson....hes no light hitter.

I'm sure they could arrange for the two to meet without actually having to go through a fight.

No, its not random. Paul Williams does have a good chin, it is plain for all to see. Now, it is questionable as to whether it would stand up to Pavlik's shots, certainly, but it is not that unlikely. Williams is a natural 160lber, who has to cut weight like crazy to make 147, presumably lowering his punch resistance somewhat. I imagine a 160lb Williams would have an even better chin.

Also Pavlik is no 1 punch KO merchant, he is an accumulative puncher and for that to work he has to be able to hit his opponent. This will be easy against Williams if he fights the style he did against Quintana, but if Williams comes in dancing then it might be very hard for Kelly to hit him indeed.

As I have said, I am not saying that Williams definitely beats Pavlik, but I don't think it is unlikely as people make out. Look at Pavliks wins against Miranda and Taylor. In both cases his opponent stood trading with him and got beat up. I have always said that Pavlik will struggle the second he meets a real 'boxer' and I am going to stand by that now. Williams has to execute the right gameplan for sure, but if he does then I think he would have a better chance than most to beat kelly.

Last question....Do you think Willimas is a "real boxer"? I sure don't. He's always been known as a guy who simply outworks his opponent. In fact, Quintana showed that Paul could be easily outboxed with the right gameplan.

Williams definitely should move up to middleweight. He's much too big to be a welterweight, and the weight draining is going to hurt him eventually. He'd be stronger at 160.

Paul Williams is all hype, I wish this fight would get made so that Pavlik would knock his ass out.
