I love them both but...Pernell Whitaker and it's not even close.

You could argue Whitaker being top ten of all time. Floyd...not so much. I'm not even sure what he has done to be mentioned in the same breath as Pea.

Pea - in the eyes of many observers - retained his title against a much younger De La Hoya 11 years ago. And that's when Whitaker was damn near finished.

His win over Azumah Nelson ALONE trumps any on Floyd's resume. He beat Roger Mayweather, Buddy McGirt, Julio Cesar Vasquez, Julio Cesar Chavez...****, all these guys in their prime beat almost every single person on Floyd's resume. And I think I'm forgetting some big names.

Really it's not close. I'm not sure why Floyd is being handed all of these things (being called an all-time great, comparisons like this) when his record - solid as it is - isn't quite there yet. Not THAT level. I love the fighter but I would hope that as fans of the sport, we value that more than the fighter himself. And Floyd has had a lot of unfinished business since he left 140. He's also pretty much told us that he doesn't feel like he has anything to prove and just wants to get paid. Fine. But let's not then do him the favor of bestowing all this acclaim on him.

Accomplishments on paper goes to Mayweather
Competition fought and head to head Whitaker is better.

          Overrall I'd go with Pernell.

That makes little sense. Whitaker fought and beat better competition but Floyd has better accomplishments? How???

Whitaker easy. He faced better competition at every phase of his career. He was more naturally gifted and lost a lot of great performances to drugs and booze.

I have Pernell around #10 and Mayweather inside the top 40 or 50 somewhere.
