Who's higher on your ATG list, Mayweather or Whitaker?

There is nothing great about McGirt, sure he was a good fighter, but that's it.
As for Nelson, I've seen only one of his fights, but you have to look at it this way, I wasn't even 10 when he fought for the last time, and during his prime I was around 6 years old. I can't possibly go back and watch every single of every single good fighter back in the day, and at the end of it all, a 130 pound fighter isn't revolutionary by any means.
Whether you think McGirt was good or great doesn't matter - he certainly was better than Ricky Hatton who no one would mistake for being great.
I don't see how you can make a case for Floyd Mayweather when...you don't really know who the guys are that Pea fought. Azumah Nelson was a first ballot Hall of Famer who beat a list of who's who in the feather and super feather divisions in the 80's and 90's. In only his 13th pro fight - taking it on less than two weeks notice - he went 15 hard rounds with the great Salvador Sanchez. He wouldn't get another title shot for two years, when he knocked Wilfredo Gomez out in Gomez's native Puerto Rico. That ALONE is enought o place him above every opponent Floyd has fought. But Azumah did so much more - really, I encourage you to get videotapes of his masterful performance against Jeff Fenech in the rematch. Keep in mind that Fenech was already an undefeated champ who had won titles in THREE divisions. These guys were NO JOKE!
Like I said, we can all be biased for a fighter - but when you start letting that overtake common sense, well...
I love Floyd more than I love Pea - who I don't even like. But I respect him, and I recognize that he deserves to be rated higher than Floyd - and that's why he is.Comment

It's not Mayweather's fault he didn't have the Azumah's and Chavez's to face. But he could've vaulted himself into the top 20 if he took on the best fighters in his division - something he hasn't done since leaving 135.Comment

Diego...I respect YOUR opinion but...he's right. In fact, when Ring Magazine released their top 80 of the past 80 years, Whitaker was rated #9. And deservedly so. He's that good.

im sorry to say doesn't matter how talented/good those fighters were can you tell me who Nelson beat or who McGirt beat? its about accomplishments kid, not about talent. if it was about talent alone there are many deserving fighters who belong up there, but the matter of da fact is people base it on achievements.
so care to elaborate who Nelson beat? its really pathetic you guys talk as if floyd needed nelson and mcgirt to be greater than whitaker, what were nelson and mcgirts achievements, and who would you pick in a fight between either of them and mayweather? grasping at straws here huhComment

its about who you beat, on paper Whitaker has his top wins over Nelson, Haugen, Ramirez and McGirt.

But obviously it doesn't matter. Because let's be honest here...you aren't gonna know the guys he beat either because they haven't fought in the 21st century. So why are you even pretending you wanna have a logical debate? You love Mayweather and even if Sugar Ray Robinson lost to Whitaker, you'd still find a way to say Floyd's better by pointing out that he's undefeated and won titles in a bunch of divisions (even if he took it from guys like Baldomir, Gatti, an ancient DLH, etc).Comment

I take it you didn't really read my previous posts if you're asking who Nelson beat. Because I gave two names (and there are MORE if you like).

if you cant, that means YOU KNOW IT, im sorry if this gets to you, but its about achievements/accomplishments rather than talent. Once you tell me their achievements ill get back to you, thanks.Comment

now your comparing ray robinson to whitaker, and no whitaker would get his ass beat by ray robinson just like floyd, because robinson was a huge welterweight and one of the most talented ones of all timeim sorry but i sense a whitaker fanboy in you, please name Nelson and McGirt's top 3 wins

Dude, go back and read the post again...slowly. Maybe you'll understand it then - although judging by how you're so off, maybe not!! LMAO.
And finally, I posted a couple of Azumah's wins a couple posts ago. You never responded to that. Yet you still carry on about someone posting their best wins as if you would even recognize the names. Please.Comment
