How can you possibly say that? It boggles my mind that people are claiming a Calzaghe win over Jones, Jr. would make Joe the "best in the era." This 39 year-old version of Jones is quite simply a shell of the formerly great boxer, and Calzaghe beating him would prove NOTHING.

In his prime, Roy would have handled Joe pretty easily IMO. But now? Come on, man. So what, Jones comes back down from HW in '05, gets knocked out by Tarver and Johnson, then loses horribly to Tarver in their rubber match, but because he's since beaten the likes of Prince Badi Ajamu, Anthony Hanshaw and an even more washed-up Tito, he's suddenly back on top of his game???

Give me an effing break! Calzaghe wouldn't break a sweat in beating Jones. Pavlik-Calzaghe is the ONLY fight that truly matters for Joe's legacy, and that one is, once again IMO, a straight-up coin flip.

Roy ain't a bum now, he's what no. 7/8 in the LHW division, after only 1 real fight of coming back recently with a new style, that works. He beat Tito in pretty good form, course he's past he's peak, so is Calzaghe, christ there's only 2 yrs between, hardly that much is it.

Calzaghe by embarassment. This is a horrible matchup for Pavlik.

See, that's the thing. Fighters don't necessarily age at the same rate, and just because Joe & Roy are only seperated by 2-3 years in ACTUAL age, their ring ages are much further apart. Roy's star fell when he dropped back from HW after the fight with Ruiz; you could tell he was slipping badly even in the first go-round with Tarver. When Erik Morales fought David Diaz, did you know that Diaz was actually the older man? That's obviously an extreme example (being that Morales is just 31 and had so many brutal wars), but you get my point.

Also, Tito is so shot it's actually sad and painful to watch him fight. Not only did he not win a SINGLE ROUND against Winky Wright, he was utterly embarassed. And then he fights Jones at 170?! He has no business anywhere north of 154. But yet, people still act like this victory meant something for Roy. Look, I love Roy Jones as much as anyone else, but he's gone man -- let it go.

OK, OK...maybe Jones wouldn't handle Calzaghe THAT easily...but you see what I'm saying -- I think a prime Roy beats Joe or anyone else from this era. Sadly, he's not anywhere near that level anymore.

Let the young guys fight is code for, I cant control the older fighters any longer so enuff of them! Last I checked, Zaghe was no spring chicken! Slimer is just trying 2 make a case 2 get some of the Zaghe easy money. I won't pay for Zaghe vs Pavlik!

I'm keeping a record of this thread so I can create a list of all those making ludicrous claims that Calzaghe will be KO'd in the 10th round or less.
Calzaghe is a BAD BAD fight for Pavlik, Calzaghe loves Pavlik's taylor made style and the fact that it's common knowledge Calzaghe being a southpaw typically moves on the outside of Pavliks bread and butter would mean Pavlik would have to adopt his game fast.

I've said ti once and I'll say it again, Calzaghe fights on the fly, he can adapt to any style, Kessler, Lacy and Hopkins proved that. Calzaghe adapted in the ring to Bernards right but Bernard couldn't adapt to Calzaghe.
