I still think Mijares would beat Montiel if they were to fight. At this point I think it's a fight that has to be made.
We can bet on that fight if it happens, I think Montiel will bust up Mijares.

        i saw the fight
montiel showed mad power tonight he knocked maldonado down in the first second and third round before stopping him with a barrage of punches
montiel showed some really good body punches i was surprised with maldonado resistance he shoulda been knocked out cold by a big left in the first round
montiel its not the more skilled guy in the world but he is definetely the biggest puncher at superflyweight id pick him over mijares

Fernando Montiel Blasts Luis Maldonado in Three

In the battle to determine the best fighter in the world at Jr. Bantamweight (115 lbs.), 29-year old WBO titlist Fernando Montiel (37-2-1, 28 KO) of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico made a powerful statement on Saturday night at the Plaza De Toros El Paseo in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, stopping fellow Mexican Luis Maldonado (37-3-1, 28 KO) in three. It was Maldonado’s third knockout loss in three title fights and second loss in a row. Maldonado’s previous bout was an eighth-round stoppage loss to IBF Flyweight (112. lb) in December 2007. Both men weighed in right at the division limit. [details]

All right if the fight is made I will make that bet. I just think Mijares is too slick and is just an overall better boxer than Montiel.

the mijares vs montiel fight its not really likely to happen
both of these guys promoters talked in the past and couldnt reach an agreement
after the fight was over montiel said he would like to fight mijares but he was not gonna wait for him he said hes planning to move up to bantamweight to win his third title in 3 different weight classes

If the money gets big enough, they'll reach an agreement. It has to become a case of both sides not being able to afford passing up the opportunity.
