    Your post would make sense,

    but uh,

    Joe Calzaghe W Bernard Hopkins.
    Joe Calzaghe W Jeff Lacy
    Joe Calzaghe W Mikkel Kessler

    all guys picked to beat him.

      We can rise above it though and take an objective view. I for example am pretty sure that Kelly Pavlik is an exciting, talented MW, and Chad Dawson is one of my favourites. We don't have to give in and take the easiest option.
      You presuming I'm biased towards any fighters because of my geography is insulting. Hopkins got very little love for a long time given his career and lack of fights for a long time as well. Granted, he stepped up earlier and had bigger fights than Calzaghe, but I whole heartedly disagree that if Calzaghe was American he'd be praised a lot. Obviously now he receives praise from lots of sides, but a few years ago nobody on this board, brits included, talked about Calzaghe or any of his title defenses... ever.

        Calzaghe would be praised. Undefeated, record defenses, 2 world titles at once, white. Kelly Pavlik is on pace to be be Joe Calzaghe with u.s. birthright

          How hard is this to understand.

          He is praised now. People from all around acknowledge him as a good fighter, as he has stepped up his level of game. The point was, a few years ago he was a nobody because of his garbage as resume filled w/ bums in a weak division with 1 belt....

          Nice job throwing in "white" too... I thought the argument was Americans only rooted for black fighters? Which one is it?

          • Joke is barely a top 25 fighter today. He's not top 25 in the last decade and not top 100 over the last 30 years...

            • i think the appropriate question here is;
              Is Calzaghe Top 5 A.T.G? maybe not but he's definitely Top 10!

In my opinion de la Hoya and Mayweather would've beaten Tszyu. In my opinion, Calzaghe has achieved more and is the better fighter. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's hardly a radical opinion which could only come about through ignorance, is it?

                    I like Tszyu, he was an entertaining fighter and I agree that he beat some top guys, but I'm not someone who goes in for excuses. You can only judge fighters by what they do, not what they could've done. If Calzaghe hadn't messed up his hands, he'd be a different fighter who KO'd people more often and he wouldn't throw so many 'slap' style shots. But it is what it is, and I form my views based upon that.

                    I'm not adopting this argument just to suit my case; I've said in the past that when it comes to Tarver's loss to Hopkins, Jones' loss to Tarver and Johnson, Winky's loss to Hopkins, Hatton's loss to Mayweather and pretty much every other fight where the loser had claimed afterwards that weight, injury or bad preparation was the cause of their defeat that I don't accept the excuses offered.

                    The exception to that rule is age. The Tszyu who fought Hatton was nowhere near his prime, no disagreements there, but as I didn't mention the Hatton fight in my post it isn't really relevant.

                    well written post i admit man, but tszyu was 10 times the fighter calzaghe is....and im confident most guys on the forum would feel similar
