You're polling boxingscene, where Margarito love runs rampant. Polls in general still are not the public. Polls can be used to prove any point.

Cotto is more known to the general public than Margarito, Pavlik, or Calzaghe. However, Pavlik and Calzaghe draw 2 very different groups together in boxing terms and would generate a much larger audience who wants to see it.

There's a reason Hatton-Mayweather did absolutely ridiculous buys, and it wasn't just Hatton and it wasn't just Mayweather.

There's basically a set # of fans who like/enjoy boxing enough to buy a PPV. The goal is to get as many of those people who are willing to go through and buy said event. Just because 1 fight might be more anticipated by the people who want to see it doesn't mean the fight that is more WIDELY anticipated is behind it.

I was talking about polls in general, and most boxing forums would probably follow suit.

And no, it's not 24/7. Do you think people who don't care/like boxing watch the 24/7 shows? No. Mayweather-Hatton did well because of the hype of both 2 big fighters that appealed to something more than just their fanbases, but to the general public. It was a US vs UK showdown of 2 unbeaten fighters.

People love to root on their country, giving them an easy excuse to is a way to get a lot of people to watch.

sorry, but i completely disagree with you. the fight did well because it was promoted well. casual fans of today dont follow boxers like you are claiming. they get sold a "big fight", they'll buy the fight. its as simple as that. casual fans werent anticipating hatton/mayweather until the press machine started rolling. the difference between an anticipated fight and a promoted fight.

Anticipation grows through promotion, which is something you obviously know but aren't crediting for some reason. It's what you have to work with. The large population has no interest in Margarito and wont have any reason to see Cotto fight him even with good promotion. With Calzaghe/Pavlik they'd have a US vs UK thing to get a huge fan draw from both nations, Pavlik's knockout power and Calzaghe can draw off of beating Hopkins.

If you're talking sincere anticipation before the word gets out about it to the public... I'm not sure what relevancy it'd have.

Funny choice of words... I agree that more people will "want" to pay for cotto/margarito but more people "would" pay for Calzaghe/Pavlik.

Cotto/Margarito promises to be a much more exciting fight than Calzaghe/Pavlik.
