Maybe he's been reading for longer than he's been posting? Just a thought.

    • Reading this thread it's official, I ****ing hate these idiotic biased Calzaghe fan.

      No ****ing sense whatsoever.

I saw various people rating him P4P great, what ****ing nutters. I'm sure they would done the same had Hatton won (although that would be more justifiable) - I hope they pick RJJ next, at least he has a damn pulse and throws more than ten punches a round. Or I hope they pick a decent solid fighter than has PROVED himself at least. Glen Johnson.

      • Listen here Europeans, you will never be as good as an American in any sport we dedicate ourselves to. Boxing just happens to be one of them. Calzaghe, fought nothing but euro trash bums and doesn't even look like a pro fighter in the ring. Hatton, tough little UK redneck, but has the skills of a B level MMA fighter. Kessler? Ha, another overrated bum fighter. Amir Kahn is about the only true talent to be coming across seas. If Money Man gave him his blessings, that means Kahn has a future. Everyoen else was either made by Floyd or Hopkins.

        • What should Joe do then, beat some big name welterweights? Would that make you happy?

            • People outside the US underestimate the ego of the American people. When you think of yourself as being a god among citizens you don't need to be nationalist. There's no need for it. Americans are too self absorbed to care about an American fighter winning. They already think they're better than everybody at everything. One match means nothing.

It wasn't an assumption, I read some old Calzaghe threads a while back.

You aren't neutral. Saying that Canada is neutral to American fighters is like saying that Ireland are neutral to UK fighters. Infact Irish people are more likely to see boxing from outside of Europe than Canadians are to see boxing from within Europe. When you add in the fact that the UK has been pretty ****ty to the Irish for centuries, it seems fair to say that they are less likely to be biased than Canadians.

Until the best fight one another it is opinion who is the superior fighter. In a factual sense there are more European world champions than American, but if I asked who your favourite fighters are and who the best are I bet more would be American rather than European. Not because you are intentionally biased but because you have seen more of the US fighters/media.

I think that's a pretty poor analogy. What division a player plays in is based upon ability. What country a boxer fights in is not. It would be more accurate to say that it is similar to whether or not a player plays in the Premier League or in another top European league.

Here's why: The PL probably has the best footballers in the world, but this not because English players are the best, it's because of all the foreigners playing there(ditto US boxing). However the PL, like US boxing, is the most watched in the world and pays the biggest money. Because of this an English player who is not that great, like Beckham, can get paid massive amounts of money because of his nationality, just like a US boxer. That's not to say that Beckham is ****, just as the top US boxers are not ****, but if he had been born in Moldova he wouldn't be rated as highly, and the same is true of several US boxers.

If an Eastern European player wanted to prove that he was the best he would have to play in a top league, but, like Sergiy Dzinziruk and US boxing, there is no guarantee that him going to a foreign country would work out. He might not get a contract with anyone or he might get a contract but be paid less than he would get if he stayed at home.

If Sergiy Dzinziruk had defended his title in America last weekend instead of in Germany, would he have made as much money? No. HBO wouldn't be interested, very few US boxing fans would want to go and see him, and he'd have to do all his training and preparation away from his own gym etc. Added to that less Germans would watch the fight on TV because it would be on at 3am, and so he would also get paid less money by the German TV channel that shows his fights.

For many boxers it does not make sense for them to fight in the US, nor is it a realistic possibility. These guys devote their lives to their profession, and asking them to take a lesser payday in an unfamiliar environment just to satisfy some Americans who can't be bothered to watch a fight unless it's on HBO is pretty unfair in my opinion.

So Kessler wasn't a top fighter? If that's how you see it then it is obviously impossible for any SMW to be a top fighter. If someone fights in a European dominated division then they will never beat anyone with a big US profile. What more should Kessler have done? He won a title(by KO). He defended in a different continent. Then he unified(by KO). Then he attempted to unify again and came up short against someone who is rated in the p4p top 3 by a large number of people. He has proven that he has good handspeed, a great chin, a good jab and a hard punch.

If Kessler goes to the US and beats an American on US TV, he won't have suddenly become a good fighter, all he'll have done is increase the number of people in the US that consider him to be one. A film isn't the best just because most people have seen it and it wins lots of awards, otherwise Titanic would be a great movie.

You call yourself a neutral but you aren't. Kessler is not rated by people such as yourself because he's a European who fought in a European dominated division. It's a simple as that.
Honestly, the best post in this thread so far. Nice one.
