I mean seriously guys, this thread points out that US fans call their fighters legends no matter how many times they lose, and what happens?

If you dont consider Winky as a legend then dont rate Mosley,Oscar or Taylor nor Hopkins.
Tarver is a legend,he's proved himself
Toney was a great boxer, that guy could kick some ass.Eubank and Benn didnt wanna hear about him Joe didnt wanna hear about Toney. It was only when Toney got to heavyweight that Joe called him.

How can you say Toney is not a legend, his defensive techniques will be studied for generations to come.

It says you completely disregard the achievements of other boxers, and what happens?

As for Ricky,I've never rated him much as a fighet. All he has is courage and thats it,no boxing skills. It took RIcky 38 fights to fight for a real title and yes he beat an old Tsyu who hadnt really fought in 2 years and it ends there.
It says you have a sense of entitlement when it comes to expecting your fighters to be recognised as great, and what happens?

ANY fight fan from Austria to Zimbabwe HAS to know Toney is an all-time great, and that Wright is a highly rated fighter (and no one cares about Tarver)- just idiotic not to think so because those EVIL AMERICANS don't think highly of your slap boxer

There are lots of thoughtful and objective US posters (or fans of US fighters)out there, but really, you guys definitely need to raise your game.

First, I'll just state that I'm American and I am guilty of what I'm talking about below. I can't help it sometimes...

Anyway, the US to the rest of the world in terms of boxing is like NY compared to other cities within the US.

NY is the greatest city in the US, we all know that. However, no one wants to constantly hear someone arrogantly brag about it while simultaneously looking down on everyone else as though the rest of the country is some worthless wasteland. Then to automatically assume EVERYTHING from NY is going to be better.

So what I'm getting at is perhaps US arrogance boost bias in other parts of the world simply because there is a need to defend your own fighters from constant criticism. I'm not saying there aren't great fighters in other parts of the world, I just believe people cling onto them more because of the US influence. I'm not also suggesting there isn't bias fans around the globe, I just think the US fans cause an increase in the bias.

BTW I got nothing against NY! Y'all just get on my nerves sometimes.

Tarver is a legend? What criteria do you use to determine if someone is a legend?

Americans are worse than the rest of the world when it comes to overestimating their own fighters, although I accept that this can often include boxers who box out of America too, and include Mexicans, Puerto Ricans etc.

It's not so much national pride that you have, more a belief that the entire world of boxing is basically the US and an at times amazing disregard for other fighters. Virtually every single elite fighter you have, once they pass a certain point in their careers is acclaimed as a legend, no matter how often they actually lose. Look at Hopkins, Jones, Winky, Trinidad, Toney, even Tarver! At times US fans act like these guys never lost a fight in their life,
continually saying, your guy will never beat my amazing legendary legend (even though he's lost his last two fights!)

You certainly don't extend this incredible willingness to forgive defeats to non-US and particularly European fighters. Every loss by a European proves beyond all reasonable doubt that he is a bum!

So its not UK style national pride that you have exactly, more a huge and overweaning national sense of entitlement and presumed superiority, combined with an almost wilful disregard for the achievements of boxers from any other nation.

Not trying to stir anything up, just saying!
Americans don't respect non US fighters (excluding Mexicans, Cubans, and Puerto Ricans) because they pad their records in their home countries.

your race remarks are misplaced here.Joe hasnt done anything no wonder he's not mentioned.

....but American fighters do exactly the same...Hopkins, Toney, Jones, all of them. The point is that US fans will excuse losses, average opposition and home country advantage in their own fighters but condemn it in foreigners as the crime of the century.

                  Its true!
