Does joe slap to protect his hands or does he just have poor punching technique?

Jesus christ, he doesn't get enough credit for what he does. He's had to completely change his style to win fights on stamina (and he's getting OLD!) instead of knocking people out like he used to. He had a career threatening wrist injury early on in his career and he broke his left hand several times in fights.

I'll keep that in mind, sir.

I'd say because of subsequent hand injuries. On a side note, a few days ago I was hitting the bag and thought of the slaps he threw. I tried to actually throw some out of curiosity and they are actually really hard to do at a decent speed. So hey i'll give him a little credit, heh.

The last thing i want to say is everything else calzaghe does, is ****ing amazing, his footwork, speed, accuracy, punch volume, boxing ability and pure athletic ability cant be disputed .. he just punches like a five year old and i think we need to clear it up ...
Mayweather has ****ed up hands too..but he doesn't slap like a female..

45-0, 32 by KO, held a title for over ten years and 22 defenses, and in his last four fights has moved up in weight to become the linear champ at light heavy as well as won all the big-four belts and the Ring title.

                  Yeah, he can't punch.

Holding a WBO title for 10 years is not the same as holding a WBA..IBF..or WBC..

We all saw Joe throwing karate chops at the air like a deranged baboon..the guy can't punch..

Why isn't it the same? Because the WBO doesn't award titles for life to fighters who have only fought at the weight once? Because the WBO doesn't change you from World Champion to Super Champion to Mega Champion if you win other belts then re-award the world championship to some other sucker? Because the WBO doesn't insist on lining up Australian mandatories every time their belt changes hands?
