First of all, i ain't a calzaghe hater and im not sexually obsessed with him either ...

Secondly, look at joes older fights, he was never a devastating puncher, but his technique was much better and he threw punches like a boxer should, only recently has he been throwing " slaps " .. i just want to know if people think this is because of the numerous hand injuries, or just down to the fact he cant punch for ****.

The last thing i want to say is everything else calzaghe does, is ****ing amazing, his footwork, speed, accuracy, punch volume, boxing ability and pure athletic ability cant be disputed .. he just punches like a five year old and i think we need to clear it up ...

None of the above. Joe slaps because he has a vagina.

I've always worked under the assumption that after he hurt his hands he started punching like that.... Then he realized that judges nowadays will score rounds even if you're not doing damage. So, slap away and protect the hands is probably how he feels.

Its his hands, I think. Even in the Jeff Lacy fight, he threw harder punches then he did in his subsequent fights..

Noticed he changed to Grant gloves recently too, he landed some decent shots on Kessler in those gloves and after the fight said the gloves protected his hands very well..

To protect his hands + He has no technique (in the punching department)

It's obvious to me his work rate is really up there because he throws arm slaps. Im sure he'd fatigue if he punched like a man.

Watch the Eubank fight, he was throwing bombs for the first 4 rounds trying to get Eubank out of there, he still was fighting as strong in the 12th round.

The last time we really saw Joe do some real damage was against Lacy, where it was easy and I think he got carried away and damaged his hands more. Against Kessler he clearly bruised him, but he since then for me has been more cautious, and hits with his palm side often to avoid injuring them more.

So this is the reason. It's a great shame. When he had KO power he was lethal, and if he did now, I think he'd be a much better fighter all round. It's understandable when you can't get up and KO like he did against Mitchel, anymore, he has to try to make up for it with speed, flurries of punches, and yes sometimes to not injur himself, often hitting with the palm.
