Does joe slap to protect his hands or does he just have poor punching technique?

He is an unorthodox fighter and yes he tends to throw many of his shots without extending the elbow or rotating the wrist, he has done this for years but it has become more apparent since his hand problems began.

In the early days he set down more on his shots and had good power, he is now thinking more about career longevity especially with the amount of shots he throws, someone compared Mayweather's hand problems to Calzaghe's, OK but Mayweather's style and punch output is completely different.

If his technique is so poor then why does he continue to beat everyone?, also are we discussing if his technique is legal? If so has he ever been warned for slapping in any of his 45 fights? If so how many times?

people have been saying Joe slaps for years, I got the eubank fight on DVD and they were saying some people have said Calzaghe slaps his punches. I am sure Eubank didnt think Joe slaped him to the floor.

Honestly I dont think its either, I think he takes power off so that he can maintain his speed throughout the fight. you cant throw as many shots as joe does with pure power the entire 12 rounds you will run out of gas.

ye i think throws slap rather than power punches as it saves much more energy and he could probably throw around 5 slaps to one power punch.
