Mayweather beat Hatton at 147 when Ricky was not the champion of the division, he had given up his belt that he won from Luis Collazo. The same with Judah (and please for the love of god, and your own credibility, don't mention the IBF belt that Judah still somehow held), who was no longer a champion.

Mayweather gets no credit for beating Jesus Chavez because he wasn't a champion at the time? What about Corrales who didn't hold a belt at that point?

All of these non-champions did nothing to solidy how great he was? Clearly they did, and the same is true for Cotto, he beat Quintana about as convincingly as you can ask for, and you are saying it doesn't count, because Quintana didn't have a belt at the time.

Just because Cotto won a vacant belt doesn't make the belt less legit.

Don't you think the defenses he has successfully completed would make that belt legitimate?

A win over Sugar Shane Mosley means more to me than a win over Carlos Quintana at this point... or are you claiming that beating Quintana in his next fight would be a bigger win for Cotto than his win over Shane Mosley?

Another example: If he beats Margarito this summer, who would have to relinquish his IBF belt to fight Cotto, does that take away from that win? Would he have to fight the winner of the IBF vacant title fight in order to legitimize his win over Antonio Margarito?

Well even so... a vacated title should not always have an asterisk by it. Defenses of that title can make it legitimate.

Or maybe not... in that case the whole 168 division will always be terrible, filled with fake champions who will always hold a belt that was once won after Calzaghe vacated it.

We live in era of boxing where every fighter floyd fights and win gets discredit...right after for not being whatever they consider a marker of success... we all understand that..

and seeing how The Hatton Fight was discredited.....because Hatton wasnt a WW champion, or wasnt big enough, or whatever the reason may be...

I look at Cotto and see what the excuses and argument will be when Floyd beats him...!!

I see people saying he never fought a young, prime, active, p4p fighter before he fought floyd

I see people saying he only won his titles by fighting in Vacant matches

I see people saying well Cotto was never highly ranked in the P4P list anyways So this win is not that impressive.....

and some of those arguments are valid...And I see it happening as soon as Floyd wins...



So a quick way to get rid of all those arguments

is for Cotto to get those other two belts.....
And solidify himself as a great fighter before he fought Floyd...

Not becoming a great fighter if he beats floyd...

But if they are all vacant title that Baldomir vacated and they're all meanless and since Floyd is the REAL CHAMPION beating Baldomir wouldn't all those belts be meanless now.

He is saying that he wants Cotto to unify against Quintana and Margarito. But aren't those belts still meaningless and isn't fighting Mayweather the only way of winning the REAL TITLE.
