Where I live at, all the sports bars and bars show UFC and not any boxing at all. I called one of these joints and asked them if they were showing a PPv fight, they laughed at me and hung up.

I guess these joints believe that UFC is the future and boxing is dead. Its like the UFC is the cool sport and boxing is for your grandpa or something.

heres a little piece of info for your asses, anything normally popular with the younger crowd normally gets treated like a trend. look at the music industry, you'll have an artist that goes platinum for about 2-3 years, then will barely go gold. the older demographic is more reliable and normally sticks with a product/service/entertainment. thats the risk UFC is taking, hoping that the interests for their product carries over with the younger demographic when they get older. they mostly cant rely on new consumers who are pre-teen and are growing within the 17-25 year old range because just like in music, they might not like what the people before them liked.

Also here in the States pop culture is huge and unfortunately Boxing isn't part of pop culture while UFC is starting to be. It's amazing and sucks at the same time because people my age (Im 26) or younger only follow UFC (and there usually not serious about the fight game). The only people I know my age or younger that follow boxing are on this site.
The UFC has marketed itself very well, the target audience is younger fans, who will then spend money on PPv's , merchandise etc. The image of the UFc is to be the cool sport and one that younger people can call their own. Its like a child who is embarassed of their parents, whatever they like , the kid will do the opposite as to not be deemed uncool.

The Ufc is big cause peolple want to see instant violence. They want to see guys rush each other and make each other bleed using those little ass gloves. They really don't want to see guys with padded gloves fighting for 12 rds , they want 3 rds of fury and KO's.

Yeah, they were *******s. Its like if I asked if the sky was red or something, they laughed at me and hung up. The UFc is the in sport right now, boxing really needs to completely remarket themselves.

The only reason ufc has bigger ppv numbers is because they have a lot of ppv events. If boxing is dead why does hbo(one of the richest and biggest networks) televise boxing and not ufc? Why do boxers get paid way more than ufc fighters? Boxing isn't in all that great of shape with all these belts floating around and with all these corrupt sanctioning organizations but its still big. Boxing also has very limited commercialism while ufc is everywhere. Boxing is bigger than the ufc and if it cleanes up it's act it will be light years ahead of ufc.

Also 95 percent of there viewing Audience is White and they are the majority in North America and canada....this is a demographic that boxing doesn't reach.

UFC is appealing to older fans is well. the cards feature 5 or 6 enjoyable fights unlike the **** cards boxing is producing. your lucky to get one half decent fight sometimes. The sport will decline if it does not attract more mainstream interest

Things are great at the moment but I really worry when great fights like vasquez marquez, pac marquez don' get exposure but ****e like last night and dlh mayweather attrct the only attention. it really is worrying

Not to mention they aren't really that talented at everthing mma is supposed to incorporate. UFC requires many skills and most dudes are only good at one thing. I really don't think UFC(mma or whatever they call it) works. It's like combining basketball, baseball and football into one. Some of they're best fighters came from that reality series the "ultimate fighter", imagine if one of the best boxers came from the "contender". When some of your best fighters come from some reality show and make it big I question the legitimacy of the sport.

Some true points here but don't forget, UFC is very violent and uses tiny gloves with few rules. How long can that last? People are going to start getting hurt more and more and they will have to use bigger gloves, which means a tougher time with grappling and less blood. Similar to boxing then, except boxing has more skill which people will go to watch.

Very true. I actually think boxing is more violent though. Castillo/Corrales, barrera/morales, hagler/hearns, lamotta/robinson, carbajal/gonzales, vasquez/marquez, any old school fight, I could go on forever.
