Hopkins was the one who made it ugly. But I was seriously dissapointed in the way that Joe went about fighting Hopkins. He honestly took his wild, cuffing flurry slaps to a new level tonight.Comment

Agreed, I was more disappointed by Calzaghe's performance than any other thing I have to say about the fight (it perhaps trumps any praise of Hopkins, deservedly or not).Comment

Ugly in that way, but I meant ugly, ugly ugly.
They both were doing that. Calzaghe wasn't letting Hopkins unload either.Comment

I don't really have a problem with Joe's slapping, it's just I don't think they should count as much when hitting the back or the shoulder's of Bernard when Bernard his hitting him in the face with 2 good clean shots.
That's what made this fight so close, imo. Calzaghe didn't appear to be landing in the middle rounds and Hopkins would gut him when clinching and get a couple good clean shots.
People scoring focus too much on flurries. It's disapointing. For general scores it should have been anywhere from 114-113 to 115-112 for a Joe win. Anything higher then that is disgusting.Comment

Exactly, this fight confused me a great deal in regards to how most fans seem to score fights. It's not like he was throwing those Leonard round-stealing flurries in there (which look good deflected or not), they looked terrible due to a combination of slapping with the punches not landing cleanly/at all.I don't really have a problem with Joe's slapping, it's just I don't think they should count as much when hitting the back or the shoulder's of Bernard when Bernard his hitting him in the face with 2 good clean shots.

And those weren't even your typical, traditional flurries mind you. He was flurrying two inches from Hopkins chest, hitting the back and shoulders in the clinches, and getting awarded rounds.
