Hey, if you're going to say that Mayweather can do this, then why not Oscar who has beaten guys who were bigger than the guys Floyd has beaten. Surely Fernando Vargas, Yori Campas and Felix Sturm were bigger than the guys PBF has beaten.

If Mayweather was a true welterweight, he'd have beaten Cotto by now. If he was a true junior middleweight, he would have beaten someone other than de la Hoya by now. If he could be a middleweight champion, he would have done so by now. Then why would he be wasting time with small fries like Hatton when there are all of these big fish ready for the taking?

    What the **** is this???

He hasnt fought Cotto yet because he doesnt feel the fight is big enough.....

He fought Oscar at 154...because of the money and exposure what else is there at 154???...

He fought Hatton at 147 because Hatton is a media darling with a ****load of fans.

    You cant be serious???

There is no way Floyd could beat a Middleweight that can punch..I'm a fan of Mayweather but I'm being real with myself...It would be a boring fight in which Mayweather would just pot shot.....he will go to the ropes and would get seriously hurt against Pavlik...Hey maybe I could be wrong and he would pot-shot his way to victory. Who knows???

Floyd would probably be an underdog against any top 5-10 middleweight.

But that's not to say he wouldn't beat them.
          I'll explain why he could beat any middleweight out there right now;

First of all, we need only to look at history to get a clue on how exceptionally talented fighters have fared in the higher weightclasses.
Take Duran as an example. No, I'm not comparing Duran to Floyd, just follow me here.
That man was exceptionally talented, a rough and tough customer who relied on a physical style in his prime. He gained weight and eventually ventured into the middleweight division.

Keep in mind now that even though Duran is one of the best ever, he fought against some of the best ever... At MIDDLEWEIGHT.

Look at a more recent example, like Sugar Shane Mosley.
Even though he didn't fight at middle, he fought big guys in the 154 division.
Winky, who many people here figure would beat Hopkins prime for prime at 160, being the prime example.

Winky ain't no puncher, I know that. But Sugar Shane is not really difficult to hit either. Floyd carries some considerable skill advantages over him, especially at the bigger weights were one punch means more than in the lower weights.

If it's one thing I admire with Floyd, it's his ring intelligence.
He has changed his style completely to counter the advantages carried by the bigger guys he's facing.
We're talking about an all-time great defence here. This is a guy who grew up fighting guys twice as fast as the slow, robotic-like middleweights we see out there today.
Picking off the punches and rolling with them is easier for him at this weight, just look at Oscar's ineffectiveness. And keep in mind that Oscar is still faster than any of the middleweights we are talking about here.

People also forget the fact that Floyd wouldn't come into the ring at 150 either. He would bulk up, just like Jones and hopkins did, and he would fill out those legs and shoulders.
He wouldn't be anywhere near as strong as a legit middle, but he wouldn't be a pushover.
He would certainly be more dangerous than Spinks.

Again another fighter we can look at.

Tell me that Floyd wouldn't do better than Spinks in any fight, I dare you.

Just there Floyd would have a great shot at beating Taylor. If he has a great shot at Taylor, he has a shot against anyone.

He could even knock out some of them dudes with enough sharp counters...

If you are starting to agree with this or nodding your head in a knowingly fashion, chances are you are a ******.
All of this is pure and utter bull****, though I doubt many will even read this far and start to bash me without realizing this is a hoax.

Jump off of Floyd's ****, gentlebitches!
          Get real

I do think Pavlik can beat Winky Wright because Winky hasn't been invincible since moving to middleweight. That and he doesn't maintain his weight between fights. If you weighed him right now, I wouldn't be shocked if he was around 185. After 35, it's hard to be effective dropping 25 pounds and beating young champions.
Ok, regardless of how close you felt Spinks was to actually beating Taylor, you had to be a little surprised that the undersized (first time at 160) Cory Spinks was giving Taylor some comp.

I mean, this is the same Spinks that Zab Judah destroyed in brutal fashion.

The difference in talent between Taylor and Pavlik is not as big as the gap in talent between Mayweather and Spinks.

Logically speaking, the bigger man should always win, but you do have exceptions. Exceptions like Roy Jones, Ray Leonard and Floyd Mayweather. These are guys that are extraordinarily fast, smart and have loads of boxing talent.

Yeah, if only Cotto was as good and as well known as Baldomir...

I think it would be suicide for Floyd to lay against the ropes agaionst Pavlik trying to counter..he will get caught.

I think Pavlik would get throughly outboxed though....I cant see Floyd taking any risks in this fight..none...and that mean Pot shot festival.

floyd could go down as one of the greatest... if he had that willingness to challenge himself, and the best around him.... sadly he doesnt...
Let me tell you something. Growing up I thought Roy Jones was invincible. Why? Because he said he was and did things nobody else could do. But then he got knocked out and wasn't Mr. Unknockoutable anymore.

Floyd Mayweather is no fool. He knows he's not a strong welterweight. He knows that against Baldomir, he could move around because Baldomir lacks the fundamental athleticism to keep up. He also knew that Zab Judah and Ricky Hatton moving up would be the same functional size as him when he went into the ring.

Oscar de la Hoya is past his best and he figured the payday would be worth the risk given that Oscar doesn't have the vitality to go a hard 12 rounds anymore.

The reason I bring up these points is that Mayweather realizes that he is a natural 140 pounder and that his body won't be able to acclimate to the higher weights.

Just as Roy Jones knew he wasn't invincible, so too does Mayweather. It's not like he'll let fans think that, though. He provides what they want, someone they can relate to and live vicariously through.
