You could say Oscar was the biggest name, but he wasn't the biggest challenge. Certainly there are a lot of younger fighters who could beat de la Hoya at 154. Mind you, he was practically handed a title against Ricardo Mayorga.

Mayweather won his first title at 130, and you expect him to beat a functional super-middleweight?
By your logic, Roy Jones was a JR. MIDDLEWEIGHT that beat a HEAVYWEIGHT.

What welterweight doesn't spar with middleweights? Shaun George (175 pounds) spars with 250 pound Faruq Saleem all the time, I wouldn't favor Shaun George to beat heavyweights, though.

And I'm asking you to name that champion, at 154, that was better than De La Hoya? What fight made sense? And I'm not talking about from a financial perspective. What fight at 154 would have pleased the majority of the boxing fans?

A bum at heavyweight, you're comparing apples to oranges Kelly Pavlik is no John Ruiz.
