And yeah, I'm sure Joe's fight against Peter Manfredo Jr. was much, much more of a challenge.
The Manfredo fight was all about the name recognition (Manfredo, like him or not, is a well-known guy in the States), and for the payday. Joe has been very open when talking about that fight. He told Steve Bunce (at least I think it was him) that he had no motivation for these kind of fights, they are boring and offer no challenge.

I don't blame Joe for taking that fight. 35,000 turned up and Joe got paid nicely for an easy night's work.

wow this topic has been discussed so many times... what is the point of this thread? kayjay is just making yet another attack on the credibility of hopkins opponents but for what? It's not really relevant to the calzaghe fight because you could go on about Calzaghes opposition the same way.

What the hell do you think Hopkins fighting ODH was for? Biggest payday of his career (10+ mil I do believe) and huge name recognition. I don't blame Joe either, he did what he was supposed to do.

This is why I don't understand why Hopkins gets criticized for this. If you were a boxer, trying to make it BIG, and ODH (the biggest name in the sport) wanted to fight you, who was naturally a bit smaller, would you turn down the fight? LMAO, **** no, you do what you're supposed to do and WIN. Or, Maybe Hagler should have turned down Hearns, Duran and SRL. haha, could you imagine??

I think that is the point. You can criticise both fighter's records or you can appreciate that both are top fighters. If you only criticise one then you are a hypocrite.

personally I think Tocker Pudwill is the easiest.

                That fight was hilarious.

Or are you telling me that it was talent rich at the time?
Were you even watching Boxing back then or is it just this past 5 months?
Hopkins had an easy pool to play with for a long time once Roy moved up.
That is another factor with Hopkins , he spouts all this horse**** but he has never ever avenged his losses.
.He stayed at a weight class where it was safe instead of chasing the bigger challenges at 168 & 175
He finally moved up when the easy shot at Tarver was there for the taking.
And now he knows if he loses to Calzaghe he will have the automatic Father time excuse.
same can be said about Calzaghe

Bernard was so delicate, so hands off with Oscar, it was irritating by itself as an isolated subplot.

Hopkins carried Oscar like a baby that night. It was almost as if they were...business partners.
