I don't see where you are going with this. Are you telling me that because I have never boxed that I am somehow incapable of understanding that boxers employ different strategies depending on their opponent?

You dont seem to understand that. If Tarver did what he was trying to do how can you say he put on a poor performance, if he did exactly what he trained for and intended on doing. Basically, you would have to be in Tarver's corner, having known his particular gameplan, had to sit through training camp to know such a thing. Again, if Tarver did exactly what he was trying to do, how is that a poor performance, not considering he shut his opponent out. The problem lies with the fact that fans sometimes have a view of how something shoudl look, when Tarver is sparring do you think he is thinking about how pleasing to the eye his craft is, or how effectively he is doing his job? You wont look aestetically pleasing to the eye all the time, the name of the game is to win.

        Haye
        Maccarinelli
        Froch
        Witter
        Alex Arthur
        Clinton Woods

        That's the hierarchy.
I'm American but.. at his own weight class? Haye is the real deal. That's why he's moving up to face the dinosaurs. Also? Macca is not nearly as good as Witter. I'm going to assume you created this list based on a combination of your favorite fighters/ most popular fighters/ most Tv Time. As far as the topic is concerned Tarver beating Woods is not comprable with Witter beating Tim Bradley. If you don't know that then there's no helping you.

Tarver was the better man, because Woods clammed up and bottled it.
Sparked is an excellent fan.. on a side note, this thread was created in a show of some "mediocre" sportsmanship.

If Tarver intended to leave himself open to punches all night long then he executed a perfect gameplan. The fact that Woods didn't capitalise on that can't be used in Tarver's favour.

If Woods can't beat a guy who's open to punches all night, then no matter how bad Tarver is it shows that Clinton is lower grade fighter(atleast for tonight.)

Open to who? To you watching from your view on television right? That isnt the view Woods had. Again, if Tarver was open, obviously he wasnt worried about anything, leaving oneself open and not getting hit doesnt make for a bad performance, but shutting out your opponent and taking his title as if he basically handed it to you details a good performance.

If we go back to the example of Mayweather and we compare his fight with Hatton to the one with Baldomir we would agree that on both occasions Mayweather had a gameplan and stuck to it both times and won both fights but I think you would also have to agree that one of those performances was considerably better than the other.

I don't think anyone has ever really thought of Woods has much more than a domestic fighter but that was a poor performance even by his standards.
