2501, y does Miguel need a "tune-up", after his last two fights were against real good fighters in both Mosley and Judah?

In YOUR opinion..not what Arum is trying to set up. But how do YOU feel?

Well, seeing that the plan is to fight Antonio Margarito who stylistically will provide MANY problems to Cotto after this Gomez fight, I dont have a problem with it. Also, Cotto fights about 3 times a year. If we look at all the "stars" we have in boxing, we're lucky if we even have one fight 2 times a year.

So Miguel Cotto fighting Gomez to set up Cotto/Margarito and the fact he will be fighting a 3rd time again at the end of the year makes this more than OK in my opinion. Do you not agree?

Now, since the only ones really complaining about this are Floyd fans, lets look at it from a business perspective as many Floyd fans usually do as reason s to justify unpopular decisions Floyd makes.

Whether you admit it or not, whether you know it or not, Alfonso IS one of the most recognizable boxing "figures" to the mainstream, casual fans. Gomez was exposed to the American public on a MAJOR cable network on a weekly basis. He became the favorite on ESPN's The Contender and even though he did not win the season, he became the fighter that everyone who watched that show wanted to follow from that cast. After the contender, there was no doubt that Gomez had the attention and grasp of the casual fan and this was confirmed by Arturo Gatti's camp. They chose Gomez as Gatti's next opponent not just because Gomez was still yet to be proven, but because he already has a name with the casual fan. And what happened? Gomez created a shockwave in the Boxing world by KO'ing Gatti into retirement. Yeah yeah yeah, "Arturo was way past his prime". True, but Gomez was "too green" to be even be able to get past an old washed up Gatti right? He wasnt supposed to win, but he did. And in spectacular fashion. He no doubt generated more interests and fans with that performance. Enough for ESPN to broadcast his next fight against proven veteran journey man, Ben Tackie. Again, here is Alfonso Gomez being exposed to the general public on a major cable network.

So while HBO and Showtime is a service that you normally have to add on and isnt attainable for ALL cable suscribers, NBC and ESPN are. So Gomez technically has had more exposure to the mainstream that most Boxer at his level that come out on Showtime and HBO. That is a certified fact. What I'm saying that the likely hood of Gomez being recognized over Cintron, Quintana, Williams, and Clottey by a CASUAL is higher than vice versa. You have to prove to me other wise and explain if you feel different.

What that means for Cotto is MORE exposure to the mainstream that is interested and more possibility of PPV numbers that FLOYD and his FANS want Cotto to improve on so they can fight. Is that not right? Give me a name of someone that can do this better than Alfonso Gomez and Antonio Margarito?

So if you are a promoter, and you want to promote Cotto vs. Margarito which has all the makings of a Puerto Rico vs. Mexico event, then the way you do it is by having both fighters take someone on in a CO FEATURE. The first step for the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico has been taken with Cotto facing Gomez and Cintron facing Margarito. If everything goes as plan, we're gonna have a HUGE event in Margo vs. Cotto.

Someone better, that will help him in making the Mayweather fight. I would have said Paul Williams had he not lost. Maybe even Quintana rematch, since he beat Williams, and he could have unified....Mosley rematch wouldn't be a bad choice seeing that it was a close fight.

But Gomez just beat a old Gatti, who got dismantled by Baldo. One thing is, that is why they fight the fights. You never know what will happen. I am rooting for Miguel though. Just thought that since they went so hard on the Mayweather tip, they could have showed how hongry Cotto was by taking on a bigger and better challenge. That is my only gripe...but what does it mean? The fight has been made and they fight tonite. I just wanted some views on this "tune-up", when he just fought Mosley and Judah. Who are exceptional fighters...

ok brah. I like the way that you broke that down. I see what you mean on the EXPOSURE side of it. I never really looked at it that way. I looked at the opponent side of it. You feel me? Like Cotto NEEDS to be fighting the biggest names since Floyd is not going to fight him right away. But I do see what you mean from a Promoter's stand point. This is a set up for the Mexico v. PR...

However, lets both be realistic...will Arum still go ahead with the Mexico v. PR if Cintron and Gomez were to win tonite? I'm am not hating on Cotto or Marg. But you know how this sport is. One person can be on and the other can be off, which calls for an upset....

I've heard rumors here and there that he wont put Cintron in with Cotto. If Gomez were to WIN, Cotto can FORGET about PBF and even I would admit that knowimsayin?

Yea you right on that one....what are we going to see outta Gomez tonite 2501?..the boy looks determined, flashbacks of when he first called out and beat Manfredo Jr, who is vastly overrated IMO.

i bet the names u mention were unavailable or would not want the fight or it would be too soon for them to fight again. So it was his best option.

Imagine = not real = never happen = you are ******

                      ESPN Top 5:

                      1. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0) Would not fight Cotto cuz he's afraid

                      2. Miguel Cotto (31-0) can't fight himself Well maybe in your ****** imagination

                      3. Antonio Margarito (35-5) was suppused to fight cotto instead fought PW and lost so he had to get back in line and if he wins tonight he will secure a fight wit Cotto

                      4. Shane Mosley (44-5) Already got beat by Cotto!!!

                      5. Carlos Quintana (25-1) His only defeat is becuse he couldn't last past 5 rounds with Cotto

How come the #1 haven't fought neither is willing to fight #2,3, 4 or 5?
