I think, especially in a time when UFC/MMA/extreme fighting is on the rise, anything thats done to promote boxing in a way which puts fans on seats and makes them fork out for a PPV, or even just talk about the sport again, is a good thing. Therefore Mayweather is great for boxing. He's transcending the sport.
Is Mayweather Jr Good or Bad for Boxing??

you don't get me.. what I am trying to say is we don't have anyone in boxing right now who is doing something great for the sport like Ali, Robinson, Chavez, DLH, Leonard, etc. What the guys of today (besides Hatton in his own country) and Manny Pacquiao are doing is nothing compared to the good those others did for the sport.I think his skills has a lot to do with it. Not just him, but anyones skills has alot to do with whether they are good or bad for the sport. Is B.Hop good for the sport? Is Miguel Cotto good for the sport? Is Pac Man good for the sport? If they are, then Y NOT MAYWEATHER?
Question, if wasn't as good as he in the ring, would you watch him?
If he is SOOOOO bad for the sport, y are people tuning in to see the kid the fight? Rather they are booing, cussing, and/or fussing.... That is what I don't understand....seriously. Help me with that one Devious. I'm not joking, real talk...ya diiiggg?
I haven't seen Mayweather in commercials, I haven't seen Miguel Cotto on a wheaties box, I haven't seen participation in the sport increase and more kids start to box.. Other then the one night with DLH and Mayweather I haven't seen too much main stream interest.Comment

Its debatable wether he is good for the Sport or not but i dont think he has enhanced the Sport he certainly did'nt after the World Awaits and the Baldimir thats for sureI think his skills has a lot to do with it. RJJ has done more for the popularity of Boxing than Floyd IMOComment

it did, DLH/Mayorga did 900,000K + where as Mayweather/Hatton did 800,000K +
these are US numbers. DLH/Mayorga was only PPV in the US so to use the UK #'s Mayweather/Hatton did in the UK is not fair.
And for those who say Mayweather is reviving Boxing or bring new fans to Boxing, give me a break.
the helped get some attention but it hasnt revived boxing. yes, floyd is out on the world doing whatever he can to get some eyes on HIM, not boxing but HIM. the casual fans who have seen mayweather fight arent impressed by his fights. as soon as something happens that casual fans dont like, they just toss it away. if floyd really revived boxing, he would have gotten longterm customers for boxing. wrestling fans are not longterm customers. housewives that watch dancing with the stars are not longterm customers. its ridiculous to think that casual fans are now watching boxing again because floyd is doing everything BUT boxing.
Now, where Mayweather is lifting boxing’s profile at all, this is commendable. But he mostly seems to be lifting himself, generating unhappy comments from an HBO executive about how Mayweather’s flirtation with mixed martial arts was bad for boxing. (Note: I haven’t been able to hunt down the link to the story where this was said, but I recall reading such comments.) And I was heartened when he gave back to boxing monetarily, footing the bill for an amateur tournament in Michigan. Everyone knows American boxing needs to do a better job of nurturing its amateur scene. I hate to denigrate a $140,000 contribution, because anyway you cut it that’s a good thing to do, but Mayweather not so long ago spent several thousand dollars throwing money at strangers on a dance floor. That kind of thing cheapens his charitable contributions, at least until they are more substantial from a guy who allegedly made $20 million for a pretend Wrestlemania match.Comment

Ok, I see what you mean...I feel you on that one brah. 2501, you don't think his stunt with WWE is going to bring more fans to the sport? What if a boxer (not him), stepped out and did something like UFC, would that bring in more fans?it did, DLH/Mayorga did 900,000K + where as Mayweather/Hatton did 800,000K +

Fans to sport? How? How are they going to be interested in anyone EITHER than Floyd? Floyd is promoting HIMSELF as an entertainer rather than a Boxer. Why would my sister be interested in watching Hopkins? Why would my Wrestling friend be interested in watching Cotto? Why would my MMA friend be interested in watching Pavlik just because of what Floyd is doing?
Explain to me how these new fans are going to be interested in Boxing itself when Floyd publicly states that he doesnt love Boxing anymore?
SOMEONE PLEASE explain the logic. SOMEONE PLEASE explain how and why people would be interested in fights other than Floyd's? Whaty Floyd is trying to do is get a FANBASE. A FANBASE is loyal. A FANBASE sticks with you no matter what. These people dont want to be Floyd fans. These people BOO Floyd because Floyd is entering THEIR world as a bad guy.
Why in the hell would these people come to OUR world?Comment

this is the exact thing i was gonna type practically.our stars have come and gone, nobody ever went without criticism, not sugar ray, not tyson, not roy, no one. not even marciano.I dont think he makes a diff. either way, if he never fights again boxing isnt going to roll over and die, people give him too much credit in my opinion. I think he accomplishes what he sets out to do, thats to earn money and make people either love him or hate him. But boxing isnt just mayweather. He makes no diff. IMO.Comment
