He is good for boxing simply because he is singlehandedly bringing it back into the public eye.

if that be the case, why were the fights that he fought earned the most MONEY (someone bought the product!!) of 07....is Cotto's goods good? I dont think people are buying him more than Mayweather, based on the theory you proposed.

The point is floyd gets people intrested in floyd, not boxing. he hypes "HIMSELF" up so much that people want to watch him. All my friends that never watch boxing but ordered the Mayweather/DLH fight all told me the same thing, "how can you be so into this crap, im never paying for this **** again." im not saying he's good or bad for boxing, i dont think he's trying to be either, he just wants money. Nothing wrong with that, but dont compare him to Ali, their will never be a major movie called Mayweather.

I think he good for boxing, he brings a lot of attention to the sport and he is damn good at the sport with that. He is very entertaining whether your rooting or hating. Just look at this site....there is atleast 4 threads about Floyd a day. If u listen to hip hop, he mentioned often...he is even mentioned in on gossip sites now. All kinds of people know him and are interested him that that were never interested in Roy Jones or Tito or Oscar for that matter. He has tapped into something new and created his own blueprint for some others to follow. Boxing with him is not boring, the bad guy can be successful too and he doesn't have to go to from and jail to do it. we finally hae a yang to Oscars and SRL ying.

If u cant distinguish the difference between what Floyd Mayweather does and what Muhammad Ali did for Boxing then

Ali did'nt just talk tough he fought hard when the chips were down ,and outside of the ring he was an ambassador on top off all this he fought everyone and ducked nobody ,he had the charisma & charm to boot

they are so different its just untrue ,the only think they have in common is that at a certain points in Ali career he was disbised but that was probably due to the fact he stood against Racism and stood by what he believed in

I never said Cotto was making a difference in boxing did I?
Fact of the matter is.. Hatton v. Mayweather did less then Mayorga v. DLH when it should have and could have did more.
When you do alright numbers for such a huge event with a fighter as popular as Hatton this alone tells you that the people aren't buying.
Mayweather was boo'd in his hometown and maybe 80 percent of the audience was pro Hatton.
The fight gained as much numbers as it did because of the sales in the U.K. added.. they weren't paying to see Mayweather but Hatton.
Of course your gonna do well when you fight the sports two most popular fighters.. He still isn't doing **** for the sport.
I have yet to meet a person who tells me they gained interest in watching boxing because of Mayweather..

True, all so very true. Ali was disliked for his beliefs, to me it seems floyd actually tries to make people dislike him, like its fun for him to come off like a snotty, spoiled brat. No way can the two be compared. Theirs a diff. between being a great boxer and being great for boxing.
