This is so true.

I have lived and fought from the same city as Junior Witter and live in Doncaster right now. Given the choice - fans here - love Rick - hate Witt.

Something is very wrong with that situation, especially considering that most Yorkshire people are extremely proud of the county - dare i say it - more than other county dwellers. Junior does alienate himself from the community in which he lives in - but SqueelPig....even Naz was a hero in Sheffield - as brash as he was! The community in Yorkshire is predominently white, more so than other places. 99% honkey round here. Like Hatton says - in order to make the fight pay and the risk worth it - Witter is going to have to be more popular and be more of a draw.

Junior is doing something seriously ****ing wrong. When he's on the microphone, he seems disrespectful and mean. Whilst Naz was different, he was more ****y and arrogant...however he was amusing at the same time. He was an entertainer and a character. Witter comes across as an extremely unpleasent person - especially when placed against Ricky Hatton who has his media relationship at max-power 24/7.

Witter is just a paper champion - he's never beaten anybody. It's not worthwhile for Hatton to fight him, when he can make more money fighting better opponents like Malignaggi and Mayweather.

Why doesn't he ever want to fight anyone but Hatton? Because he wants to make money off Hatton's name and popularity!

Why didn't Witter try to get a fight with Mayweather? Why did he never try to fight Tszyu?

Hatton is better liked because he's a nicer, down-to-earth guy who rarely speaks badly of other fighters.

Fatton is the definition of paper champ........ hiding from the real challenges..... unless its a tired old man ready for the taking or an oppotunistic grab at a payday.

Witter was not carefully built up and prepped for opportunities like Tszyu and Floyd..... he was thrown in with a near prime top level fighter on a weeks notice....... see the difference?

I didn't say there was anything wrong with the way Witter behaved in the interview - but someone asked earlier in the thread "What Attitude??!" and i gave an example. The example is of why Witter is less popular than Hatton in this country. Witter doesn't appeal to the normal public AND does not appear to the boxing fans because he has not beat anyone other than a practical nobody in Vivian Harris and the PPV buying housewifes of this country think he's arrogant and mean. Hatton however, has a HUGE household appeal and has a number of credible names to his records and one or two super fights.

What do you think my REAL reason for my dislike of Witter? I can tell you I've spent an evening in the company of Witter, and I can tell you that he is extremely charmless. However this wouldn't stop me cheering him against a foreign competitor. I'd like to see this bout just as much as anyone else. But I can see why it is not viable also.

The notions that he is being held back as a black man is just ridiculous. This is the United Kingdom, not America.
