Bottom line is, Calzaghe despite his obvious boxing gifts, has decided to hide under a rock in Wales until the opposition has grown old and beatable.

He backed out of Glen Johnson fight 3 times... the last time, Glencoffe then fought Roy Jones and KHTFO... Geln was never mentioned again.

Against Lacy he put the fight back due to a hand injury.. Lacy's camp had a $200K clause that if he pulled out again he'd pay them loss of earnings as Lacy could be fighting others instead of being messed about by Joe.

It's for this reason people in Britain couldn't really give a toss for him - and the fact Calzaghe always takes sly digs at the fan-favourite that is Ricky Hatton.

"I dont do holding & mauling... i come to fight" said Calzaghe after learning of Cortez's appointment.

Despite his good looks, he is a personality vacuum - devoid of any charisma nor does he own any bollocks.

Thats why David Haye is quickly catching up with Hatton in the popularity stakes as he wants the bigs fights and will take the risks.

    Too little too late Joe.

Because Hopkins was so sucessful at 175 the first time right? And Trinidad wasn't sucessful at 160 either? (At the time.) Oscar or Trinidad weren't scuessful at 154 either, which was a 6 pound difference. In 2004, Oscar hadn't fought at Welterweight in 5 years! It had been even longer since he fought at Lightweight.

Not to mention Trinidad and Oscar wanted to move up and fight him.

Except the fact Joe beat good people before that. He beat Robin Reid, Bryon Mitchell, and Chris Eubank.

Calzaghe and Hopkins have similar types of resumes. Beat both very good contenders, but it didn't seem like it because Hopkins and Calzaghe dominated them and then didn't leave the division so they couldn't do anything after.

              1. i did pick lacy to beat joe but it wasnt cause i thought lacy was a greatly skilled fighter. I saw from the rubin williams fight how beatable he was. No defense and he only throws looping overhand rights. I picked him cause i didnt believe in joe. He had been fighting for 10 years and never fought anyone of note and he constantly backed out of fights. Add that to the fact he was gettin up in age I thought an aggresive youg fighter could just roll over him. But i was wrong and my view has changed. He went from a fraud to a decent fighter with the win, not a great one.

2.He then beat kessler which again was decent but not great. Did anyone notice that Joe was a so called champion before either lacy or kessler even turned pro. Truth is he should of won. There really shouldnt been any doubt in it considering he was this long reigning champion but there was. Thats wear the problem lies. It took joe over 10 years to fight anyone of worth and even then they werent that worthy. Thats says something even if his fans wont admit it.

              3. People like to say hop ducked him years ago but truth is 7 years ago joe was a nobody and he was already holdin a belt for 4 years. Tell me why anyone (roy, hop.or toney) would go over there to fight him. It made no sense ,no reward. Win and its so what whos he , lose and then what, and thats probably what hop realized when he backed out.

4.What happened to glen johnso3n. Didnt he back out of 3 fights with him . What happened to clinton woods. no he want no part of them. He would rather build his legacy on the back of a 43 year old man who everyone knows looked less than spectacular the last time out. Well im not fooled. Fighting 2 guys dont change the 10 years of duckin before that. Truth is the fact that a 43 years man is the best fighter he ever fought and half the world still thinks he can lose. thats sad and he only has himself to blame.

Oh yah i dont know who but some guy posted in this thread earlier said hops wins over trinindad and dlh were overated but then said lacy, kesler, and eubank were great. That guys a fool. Cause no matter what u think of hops resume its still way beter than joes. So what does that say abou his. Good fight though. Ill take hop by ud.

yes!!!!! i'n glad someone else sees things the same way i do., but i'll go a lil' bit further. i think joe is a very good fighter, and he's very fast. but anybody can see he throws a lot of punches that dont have much on them, and like hopkins said, 1000 punches will leave you open for a 1000 counters, and hopkins is a COUNTERPUNCHER, which is why he didn't look good against winky. ppl are saying it was a bad fight b/c hops is too old. no, its b/c you had 2 COUNTERPUNCHERS fighting each other! if you actually watched the fight, you would know hops opened winky up around the middle of the fight, and began landing some clean hard shots, and if you know fighters- thats a hell of a thing to be able to do to winky. joe is good, but hops is a smart man, and at age 43, he wouldn't take this fight unless he knows he can exploit something. joe will come out very spirited, and might even take the first 3 or 4 rounds. hops will open the fight up and slow calzaghe down, and land some clean, choppy shots, and will win this fight by late round ko, not ud, mark my words. this will be an easier fight 4 hops than many ppl think. some fighters you can tell have slowed down, you watch their fights and say "they have no more, they should retire." hops hasn't reached that point yet, he still does what he has always done in the ring, and he's won his last 4 fights. yes, even the ones against taylor, but thats a whole other can of worms, i don't wanna open.

                Calzaghe is British Hype

Who has Calzaghe beat? Kessler? Gimme a break. Kessler is a basic fighter. Calzaghe makes so many mistakes when he fights. For example: Go to utube.com and pull up the Kessler vs. Calzaghe fight. Notice how after Calzaghe throws combinations he squares up to his opponent and puts his head down? UPPERCUT!! Kessler was hitting him with that all night. Calzaghe never even adjusted. Kesslers mistake was that he was waiting for a knockout. Hopkins beat a good Tarver whom nobody wanted to fight after he knocked out Roy Jones. Hopkins beat a good Winky Wright. Wright would blow out Calzaghe. Everybody thought Hatton would beat Mayweather, and Maccrenelli (another Enzo trained fighter) would win. Both got knocked out. This fight is going to be a massacre. Calzaghe is trained by an amateur. He has a good UNorthodox style which works against Class B fighters but he is facing a legend in Hopkins. Hopkins is nothing to play with. Calzaghe is going to be eating Hopkins right hand lead and upper cuts all night and Hopkins will take his punch output away from him just like he did Wright. Look at the record.. Wright who normally thru 100 punches per round couldnt find Hopkins all night. Hopkins threw more punches and landed more punches so dont believe the hype about Calzaghe landing more punches. You cant chase a lengendary counterpuncher. Calzaghe fans be sure to send me your comments the day after the fight because CALZAGHE IS GOING TO GET HIS BUTT BEAT. Go to utube and pull up Calzaghe vs. Byron Mitchell... BYRON MITCHELL of all people was the 1st person to drop Calzaghe.. granted Mitchell got knocked out.. Byron Mitchell is very weak and Lacy? Calzaghe is proud to beat Lacy? Lacy has ZERO SKILLS... NADA. Post your comments but get at me after the fight because I will take any bet against Calzaghe. Calzaghe... gimme a break.

he's gotta be..Hops did leave and is the KING of 175..

in all fairness to Joe he is leaving a lot sooner then Hops did and he MAY be the light heavy weight champ as well.
