  • Who's Higher on Your P4P: Pacquiao or Calzaghe?

I've seen some people with Joke Calzaghe at #2 P4P and I can't even fathom it. Who has Calzaghe beat? Pacquiao has beaten some great fighters and has won lineal titles in 3 divisions. Calzaghe has been sitting in one division beating up on bums in his backyard for over 10 years.

PacMan would be the obvious choice, whoever doesn't agree with that doesn't know a thing about boxing IMO.

Yeah, I think any boxing fan with just an ounce of plain and basic common sense could easily who the better fighter is.

Pacquiao is second, Calzaghe third, I could switch them up if Calzaghe beats Hopkins more impressively than Pacquiao beat Marquez.

I think that will be the only way for Joe to be above Pac!

I have Joe at #2 with Pac at #3. P4P isn't who you've beat, it's how your skills compare to other fighters, regardless of weight. Some might say that you demonstrate your skills against your opposition, and that's true, but you can plainly see Joe has the skills to pay the bills. It's not easy defending your title 21 consecutive times.

Now, Pac is a close #3, tho. I don't argue with anyone who has him at #2, either, because, IMHO, they are very close. Pac has improved his defense and his right hand, which is a big factor to consider now. However, I did have Marquez winning the fight this weekend (by one point), so it's hard for me to justify having Pac over Joe when Pac squeaked by with a close decision win.

But to say that someone who doesn't have Pac at #2 doesn't know a thing about boxing is ridiculous.

Considering Hop's workrate its hard to imagine Calzaghe won't beat him with some authority.. But I guess anything can happen with a guy like b-hop in the ring.

In theory, having Pac and Calzaghe advance past one another on a fight-by-fight basis makes sense. It indicates how close the race is between the two. But it also underlines how silly the subject has become.

I know its easier to maintain rankings in college sports because all of the teams play at/around the same time. But if Pac is better this week because of his win over Marquez, he should still be better next month regardless of what happens in Calzaghe-Hopkins.

If you think Calzaghe is better, then he should remain ahead of Pac until he either loses or retires, or until Pac scores a win so big he'd have to move past him.

Otherwise, your criteria is no longer who's better than who, but what have you done for me lately. And for that matter, Floyd should no longer remain #1, since his only planned fights for 2008 are a wrestling match w/ Big Show and another sparring session with DLH.
