Why does Margarito seem to get a free pass for losing to Williams?

Lay off the crack pipe my friend, Margarito fought Williams because Williams had been calling Tony for a while and he was going to get stripped from his belt if he didn't fought his mandatory in Williams. Regardless of the outcome in the past, you all should know by now that Margarito fears nobody and would be more than willing to go toe-to-toe with whatever nikkuh' they put in front of him. Plain and basic common sense. Margarito is a true warrior, so he took the Williams fight because he felt he was a better fighter than Cotto at the time.

I don't got all the details of the "5 days waiting period". Maybe Tony only had a verbal agreement vs. Cintron and had not signed the contract yet. Maybe it was all speculations and gossip. But I do remember the governating body publicly saying Tony had 5 days to make his mind. I thought he was going to fight Quintana since he already dispose of Kermit years aog. Anyway, I was just asking and I am glad Kermit will get his chance to prove if he is for real or not.

Seriously... this isn't a hate thread, but I'm just curious.

People always talk about having to take a few tune-ups and then beating a good contender to get back in a title shot position for most fighters, but for some reason, people think that Margarito gets to skip that whole thing.

It seem especially strange to me in his case for two reason.

1. He lost to Paul Williams, who was viewed as a special fighter, but now that Quintana showed that he has some huge flaws, that doesn't look like such a respectable loss IMO.

2. Welterweight is supposed to be the most stacked divison in boxing, however, they are just handing out title shots to fighters who are coming off losses... if the divison is so stacked, shouldn't there be a ton of guys who aren't coming off losses, who are more than good enough to get a title shot instead of Margarito?

Why does Margarito get a free pass? It certainly isn't because of a financial advantage that he has, so what is it?

I think its because hes latino.Atleast half of this board is latino and alot of them like to hate on black fighters .Why do you think theres a Mayweather hate thread every 15 seconds?If you go on youtube alot of them throw racial slurs at black fighters.


And if you don`t think there fighter is god,they call you a monkey or a n^gger.

I sure don't see him getting a free pass, at least not on this board. He lost a close decision to a fighter with a difficult style. The reason he walks right into a title shot with Cintron is that he beat KC badly, and that alone makes him a worthy contender, not to mention the revenge factor for Cintron. Quintana got a title fight coming off a bad loss, and now Williams will get a rematch with Quintana coming off that loss.

Hell what did Floyd do to deserve a potential shot at Judah. Hew wasnt the RING champ at 140 and had only beatin Mitchell at 147, YET Marg was ranked #1 contender for a very long time and didnt get a shot at Judah, Spinks, Mayo OR Baldo or Floyd..

The one fighter who every man in the welterweight division has ducked getting a free pass? What a joke. You're right, when Margarito was #1 everyone was running from this man. But of course this guy DWeins, who's been watching boxing for just a few months, thinks that what Margarito is doing is similar to what Mayweather is doing. Well, all I can say since you guys say that I have been "owned" is that this bum has to go through 3 warriors, Cintron, Quintana and ultimately Cotto, by the time he does this you and "Margarita" will be in my back pocket beside my wallet. Against Cintron he has a chance because he doesn't box but currently has the perfect guy in his corner teaching him that right now in Emmanuel Stewart. With Quintana he definetly needs to box and with Cotto, I won't even waist my time going there. Just remember that he also lost against Daniel Santos, a boxer, so he has troubles with technicians.....

I agree with Scott, Tony didnt really get a free pass, everyone who hates him or who is neutral threw the Williams loss in his face. Because the Williams loss was close the WBO kept him high in the rankings as they did with Kendall Holt after his loss to Torres.

And the reason he has an IBF title **** is solely cuz Cintron gave it to him. He didnt cut a line, Cintron personally resquested him as an opponent.

Well my mind was since changed because it does make sense to me why he is getting a shot at Cintron, because Cintron wants it, and if he wins, he gets a shot at Cotto.

It just seemed awfully quick that he was getting a title shot after losing, that's all. But obviously I wasn't taking some (quite obvious) things into account. Shame on me.

Anyway, Judah did jack **** to retain that fight with Floyd.

If you want a definition of paper championship... it is the IBF belt that Judah held after losing to Baldomir.
