Why does Margarito seem to get a free pass for losing to Williams?

If your talking about when he said "you'll get your shot" I think Floyd meant in general.

I don't think that was it. I need to find that video, but if I remember correctly he started running down his logic to Tony about how the fight would make more sense down the road, once Floyd established himself. And by established himself you know what I mean, because prior to beating Oscar he wasn't THE superstar fighter he is now. By no means.

Also I think Floyd will give him a shot in the future and I think Tony will lose. But he'll make some serious cash and Floyd will live up to his word.

I just didn't get why you claim "Tony shouldn't even say Floyd".

He can say Floyd's name in my opinion when he gets a title back or beats a titleholder like Cotto(which I doubt). He could fight Quintana at some point and if he beats him call on Floyd or face Cotto as well and beat him and Floyd doesn't have another choice.

He'll defend it hopefully fighting the better fighter Cotto at some point. Floyd's taking time off, as he said he would. Margarito should just make sure he doesn't lose to Cintron or he'll back to the start.

Seriously... this isn't a hate thread, but I'm just curious.

People always talk about having to take a few tune-ups and then beating a good contender to get back in a title shot position for most fighters, but for some reason, people think that Margarito gets to skip that whole thing.

It seem especially strange to me in his case for two reason.

1. He lost to Paul Williams, who was viewed as a special fighter, but now that Quintana showed that he has some huge flaws, that doesn't look like such a respectable loss IMO.

2. Welterweight is supposed to be the most stacked divison in boxing, however, they are just handing out title shots to fighters who are coming off losses... if the divison is so stacked, shouldn't there be a ton of guys who aren't coming off losses, who are more than good enough to get a title shot instead of Margarito?

Why does Margarito get a free pass? It certainly isn't because of a financial advantage that he has, so what is it?

I personally dont give margarito a free pass...

i dont think he deserves a shot at mayweather at this point or any title shot versus any notable opponent.

i think he has to come back the same way williams has to come back now...

neither deserve title shots let alone fights with top p4p guys...

unless they lost to a top p4p fighter they shouldnt get a free pass.

had williams went in and destroyed quintana then i think the loss is more forgivable.

i dont look down on mosley for losing to cotto because cotto is the number 1 welterweight contender...not a 5th or 7th ranked contender for best in the division.

if cotto lost i wouldnt hold it against him since mosley is arguably one of the best of his era and potentially a future hall of famer...

same goes for pavlik and taylor...if pavlik goes in an dominates the 168lb division and proves to be the real deal its different...if he goes in and gets a beat down by an average 168lb fighter then it would look bad on taylor...

same happened to hopkins and taylor...hopkins looked better and better every time taylor would win a fight...making the loss more legitamately forgivable.

I agree. I hope he fights a real welterweight other than Oscar before the year is over. I would hope for Floyd to fight in July or August and then fight in December but I doubt that would happen. Like Oscar has his plan mapped out. Then again Floyd is only 30. I don't believe the retirement ****.

Well that's understandable.

I'd prefer not to read earlier type sentiments after one we see him go through Cintron like a buzz saw. And then fulfill the dark horse role against either of the two Quintana or Cotto.

Ok so if Floyd stayed inactive for now......and Tony beat Cintron in the second fight, then beat Cotto in a big fight........then beat Quintana (Strange order only because that's what Arum seems to want to do):

lol because although many here seem to think the 3 big fight rebound is unlikely for Margarito.........I think it's flat out going to happen.
