obviously, this is a play on Horus's hypocritical masterpiece...
"Floyd Should Fight De La Hoya and I would Too"
But this is a little deeper than that. As you can see below, there seems to be a general opinion about Cotto's worth amongs Floydians..
Those are all excuses used by Floyd's most loyal "disciples" on here and on most boxing forums when justifying Floyd's decision not to fight Cotto. Cotto yet has not reached that "marquee" status that would entice Floyd Mayweather Jr. to engage in a fight with him.
Well, it looks like Cotto is trying to achieve that what the Floyd Stan Brigade has been asking for. He is attempting to raise his stock marketing wise by choosing to fight Gomez and possibly Mayorga. Is that not what you guys wanted?
Alfonso Gomez
Whether you admit it or not, whether you know it or not, Alfonso IS one of the most recognizable boxing "figures" to the mainstream, casual fans. Gomez was exposed to the American public on a MAJOR cable network on a weekly basis. He became the favorite on ESPN's The Contender and even though he did not win the season, he became the fighter that everyone wanted to follow from that cast. After the contender, there was no doubt that Gomez had the attention and grasp of the casual fan and this was confirmed by Arturo Gatti's camp. They chose Gomez as Gatti's next opponent not just because Gomez was still yet to be proven, but because he already has a name with the casual fan. And what happened? Gomez created a shockwave in the Boxing world by KO'ing Gatti into retirement. Yeah yeah yeah, "Arturo was way past his prime". True, but Gomez was "too green" to be even be able to get past an old washed up Gatti right? He wasnt supposed to win, but he did. And in spectacular fashion. He no doubt generated more interests and fans with that performance. Enough for ESPN to broadcast his next fight against proven veteran, Ben Tackie. Again, here is Alfonso Gomez being exposed to the general public on a major cable network.
And let us not forget that this is a set up fight. A fight Cotto himself understands will not raise the worth of his resume, but for some reason, detractors are treating it otherwise, regardless of the fact those same people claim Cotto is overrated..
Ricardo Mayorga
Mayorga is a name in boxing. There is no dis*****g that. He isn't the same Mayorga that murdered Forrest and Mosley and taunted Trinidad. But he still is the same Mayorga who's last 2 fights generated around 1.2 Million PPV buys.900,000 + people purchased his fight with Oscar De La Hoya. 300,000 + people purchased his fight with Fernando Vargas. Somehow, Mayorga is still generating some buzz in the boxing world. A fight with Quintana, Williams, Mosley and Cintron would not be able to generate the same kind of buzz that would interest the casual fan therefore, these fights would obviously not generate the PPV #'s that a fight with Mayorga would. It is just simple common sense.
So, the most common argument used by Floyd and his disciples was that Cotto hadn't made a name for himself marketing wise. The general public does not know who Cotto is, they won't buy a PPV event with his name on it, right? The quotes are at the top of the page. We've all seen those quotes and have read many like them. They aren't made up. Well, he is now embarking on a plan to raise his stock marketing wise with Gomez and Mayorga. He is NO doubt utilizing a similair method to that of Mayweather of taking fights with more reward than risk. So the question is.......
Will Miguel Cotto raising his marketing stock, as requested by the Floyd Stan Brigade, satisfy them? I'm afraid not.
Wow. I'm sure you are as amused by this blatant hypocrisy as I am. Even the blatant double standards set by Floyd stans are completely laughable.
Here we have Horus and Co. explaining why Floyd should fight Oscar again, a rematch which NO ONE wants to see and most already know the outcome of. A rematch that obviously presents little risk to Floyd Mayweather Jr. but provides obvious financial rewards. Here, the Floyd stans justify and defend his decision..
So you guys can "understand" Floyd for fighting for money rather than fighting the best opponent for him, but criticize Cotto for doing the same? You guys initially wanted Cotto to raise his stock, but now that he does it, you want to criticize it?
You muthu****ers are a joke.
Here I have provided indisputable evidence supporting what I have pointed out in this thread. I cannot wait to see how you Floyd stans spin this.
