on serious note, i do think very casual fans know gomez...and i guess thats why he is in there...but i seriously doubt it has any real results on making cotto a bigger name because i dont think 90% of the people who watched and know gomez from contender even have HBO...Calzaghe certainly didnt benefit form the mafredo fight.....

Mayorga on the other hand is recognizable because of all the **** he does and says before a fight. Mayorga makes people want to watch him with all the **** talking, smoking cigarettes and drinking beers. That makes people want to see what he will do next and what type of fighter he is because he is doing everything most people believe boxers shouldn't be doing smoking and drinking.
Gomez is one of the most recognizable boxers out there to the casual ESPN watching fan. Which is why he was broadcasted on ESPN after the Gatti fight. Even my mom knows who he is because he got some attention on spanish news under the sports segments.

This your opinion and I disagree with it. Could Gomez possibly got the fight on ESPN because of his performance in the Gatti fight? Did Gomez have fight before the Gatti fight and if he did why didn't ESPN broadcast that fight?

It doesn't really matter how you know who Gomez is. Fact is, you know who he is. He's a "name" to the casual fan, whether it be because he was one of the most popular fighters on that season of 'The Contender' or because he KO'd Gatti.

            Lifestyle....FLASHY, son.

Wait, you saying Cotto doesn't generate the money, compared to who? Floyd? That fool couldn't sell a PPV on his own if they paid the viewer to watch him! Without a doubt, Floyd's only PPV revenue comes by his opponents he's chosen which bring the $$$ which are the fans of the opponent. Hatton - All Hatton Stanatics, Gatti - All Loyal Gatti Fans - Oscar, um, it's Oscar - nough said.

Just wanted to add, remember when Floyd fought Baldomir? How many people were seen in the background, WALKING OUT OF THE FIGHT BECAUSE IT WAS SO BORING! Floyd is a joke. One of those kids you see in highschool that was always trying to be cool around the real cool guys to fit in. Yet everyone took him as a joke and played along with him and acted nice to him to make him feel good. Same thing with Floyd. Sure he's got sum skillz, but he's still a joke.
