why mayweather won't/doesn't need to fight cotto.

Cotto doesn't draw, as evidenced by his ppv numbers for judah and mosley. He has no charisma and is shy around his own fans. He has slightly above average speed, and slightly above average power, and an average chin at best. in short he is a slightly above average fighter. People dont pay 50$ to see his caliber of fighter.
He would have lost to Judah had he not intentionally hit him low twice, imo he should have been dq'ed because of the blatant intent of these punches. for people saying PBF has to fight him, cmon, are you serious. what has cotto done to warrant a fight against the #1 pfp fighter in the world? beat judah by cheating, which he admitted to, getting a draw against a 36 year old fighter which could have gone either way. and he beat a bunch of scrubs, big deal, beat a legit opponent impressively and we will talk. fyi, this wont happen, cotto is a top 8 guy in the division, that is it. once he starts fighting the best in the division he will not win 1/2 of his fights.
IN SHORT NO ONE IS PAYING TO SEE PBF BUT ON A BOXING CLINIC AGAINST A SLIGHTLY ABOVE AVERAGE DRONE OF A FIGHTER. floyd might as well give hatton a rematch after schooling him and make another 15-20 mil. he wont come close to 10 agaisnt cotto, an average fighter with no charisma with a fan base that doesn't/ cant afford to see his fights.

good post overall, but cotto right now is getting a name for himself. the mosley fight will do good numbers (350,000) and cotto is a young fighter. if floyd beats cotto and hatton that will be a great feather in his cap.

Floyd is getting older so he can't afford to wait 2 years for cotto get his rep up. he needs to fight cotto next and while he is still sharp. I don't think floyd should fight after the age of 31. and by beating

      hoya
      hatton
      cotto

floyd will solidify his legacy at 147.

I agree on the whole, with one minor issue. I think Mayweather has the discipline and the genetics to continue fighting well into his late 30's. Hopkins did it and did it impressively, he didn't slide until he turned 40. I think if he chose to do so Floyd could do the same exact thing, as he and Bernard are both dedicated gym ****.

I'll only respond once in order so that this ridiculous thread may die quickly.

It's past your bedtime, son. People here have no use for fairy tales.
          Now, run along.

Cotto is an elite fighter who will give any one problems.. he may not be the draw that Floyd is or even Hatton but he will be, many people have heard of what he does but havent seen it once he fights a few more big fights he'll be as big a anyone else in the sport today besides Oscar.... Cotto would beat Maragrito, Cintron and Hatton... Mosely gave him all he could handle, Paul Williams would too along with Floyd of course!

if that's what you gotta say to get your self to believe that floyd doesn't need to get in the ring with cotto fine
              he won't be sacrificed

I do. And screw you, I may like Floyd more and hell I think Mosley might have won a close fight last night, but Cotto is a great fighter.

The only reason Floyd doesn't want to fight Cotto is that he is promoted by Arum. That's it. If cotto was under golden boy, he'd take the fight right away.

i have nothing agaisnt cotto, hes not a bad guy. but people are getting excited over nothing. the truth is, hardly anyone has the skills and speed to give floyd a fight, the only fight of his career that wasnt relatively decisive was when he was injured durring training camp. The hatton fight will be somewhat interesting because hatton has some speed and is a very strong puncher. he could conceivably beat mayweahter(i give him about a 20% chance). cotto is too slow(relative to PBF) to compete with floyd and does not have the one punch knockout power to beat him with 1 or 2 lucky shots. there are 4 or 5 guys out there right now that would have a better chance against pbf. if this lackluster(he fought well but it was evident that his speed power and defense are not special, just good) win against ssm generates a ton of hype for cotto, and floyd could make a big payday, then take 70/30$ and put on the clinic. wont happen.... i understand if you are puerto rican and love cotto, hes a very good fighter and you should support him, but be realistic about his abilties. the ssm fight could have gone either way, as i said, and mosley in his prime makes cotto look silly.
