They both put in solid performances. Tito showed he still has what it takes to compete in the lower weight classes. And Roy showed flashes of his older self when he went on the offensive but his defense left a little bit to be desired. Despite the fact that he was covering up and leaning back he still gets hit to the body and that cost him points. For the first couple rounds Tito was winning off of activity. I think if Roy wants to be competitive against the best he should step up his activity and think about switching to the Bernard defense - clinching and smothering, don't even let the opponent get his punches started. Though the fights wouldn't be as entertaining they also wouldn't be as close.

I disagree with your assessment, I think Roy was GIVING Tito the body. Part of a good defense is knowing what your opponent is going to throw, and when they are going to throw it. By giving Tito the body, Roy knew what was coming. Like they say, its the punch you don't see that hurts you.

Muhammad Ali gave up the body to George Foreman for a few rounds, Roy gave up the body to Tito for a few rounds.

Ali gave Foreman the body because he couldnt take it to the head and knew that Foreman would run gas out. What point did Roy giving the body to Tito serve? He never countered from off of the ropes and Tito never showed any signs of slowing down.

And what exactly do you disagree about?

I wondered why Roy didnt counter when Tito threw to his body. I thought he was timing him but he didnt counter.

Roy's point of giving Tito the body was to show Tito that he could take everything he could give him, and still be good as new.

Fighting is a mental battle much more so than a physical battle. Against the ropes, Roy established dominance in the mental war by giving Tito the body, even taunting him to pound the body.

I dont see it the same way you do. I didnt see Tito get discouraged from that because that was quite literally the only reason he was winning any rounds...

Hilarious post of the year. I figured this would happen.

Exactly. He beats a small guy who hasnt fought in 3 years since getting destroyed by Winky, and all the sudden he is a world beater. Roy is still shot as **** and would fight scared against anyone his size with talent.

Mental wars are won and lost over the course of a fight, not the course of a round. Roy's commitment to giving Tito the body was but a single piece of a brilliantly fought fight. I don't think I have ever seen anyone fight such a smart and well thought out fight in my life.

This fight was the epitome of a high speed chess match. Roy sacrificed his queen early in the night, but it put him in a position to checkmate Tito in the later rounds.

This was a masterpiece that the late Bobby Fischer would have been proud to call his own.
