I actually think Aaron was a good defensive fighter when he kept his mind on it. He had good head movement and could be very hard to hit.

There are parts of his fight when he jabs and boxes in the middle rounds that he shows some defense..but when he comes in with he runs in lunging..no sign of defense...just launching...A fighter that is smart, has power, speed, can box, and has REACH.....will catch him coming in all day long...ALL DAY LONG... Pyror simply did not face that type of fighter as a pro. He really did not have a chance too which is not his fault..but IMO just playing all his fights back..and carrying that forward to a figher bigger, stronger, faster, hits harder than who he has been in with,,,and based off of the information form their sparring...I would put my house on a stoppage by Ray over Pryor...Just a easy fight to pick..like mayweathr Hatton...You know he is coming running in...so you what does mayweather plan for...the check hook which he threw several times....Pryor would run into a lot also...

Leonard retired form boxing 11/9/82 due to retinal injury, which if anyone wants to know, this is the very reason why Pyror is blind in one eye today. Pyror did not beat Arguello until after that, and this was very questionable due to the mysterious bottle.

Pryor was a great talent, who unfortunately came along at a unfortunate time. He was not even a blimp on the screen when he openly challenged ray, in fact the only reason he was at the meeting was because ray brought him there. He and ray were very very very good friends. I do believe that if ray had not retired and Pryor not gotten on coke, that they would have met up. This IMO would have been a very easy win for Leonard, bad balance bad defense, he is a great swarmer, but has no head movment and leonard hits harder, faster and is much bigger than Arguello. Pryor has not beaten anyone at jr Welterweight or any weight for that matter that was at therir most effeicient weight, was a great fighter and in their prime. We simply dont know what we have in Pryor he did not get tested.

wpink and Kaynan make some good point where many people

There is alway the bottle incident at the Argulleo fight which I never heard of an investagtion.

His oppenet some are good but not great expect for few.

and here is the thing that going to get me slaughtered in this thread is even Mayweather legacy is better than Pryor.

Pryor was in the golden age of boxing and he didnt untilize it there was alway someone to fight he could alway go up in one weighclass to prove himself.

I hate when people say he didn't beat anybody. Pryor didn't DUCK anybody did he?
He fought all the best contenders there were to fight and DOMINATED absolutely dominated.

Maybe Pryor did have a bad day in the gym that with SRL, but he was a kid then and clearly like manyt greats he did improve considerably once he turned pro.

Cervantes looked more like 45 or even 55!

Well, it's like I said: He COULD be a slickster when he wanted to be. But in his heart he was a brawler and it came out of him alot. We'll never know how he would have reacted in a defensive sense against a fighter like Ray.. so I'll save my judgment on that and just go off of facts.

But I do think that Ray would have KO'd Pryor.

Your info on the sparring sessions must be incorrect because Pryor put the works on Ray in the AMs and the pro's sparring.

People are just hang up in the moment sometimes alway comparing people long time go. Pryor is a good fighter and one of the best fighter at 140 history but most of his win are realtively unknownen.

and for people who said that SRR ducked him, He fought Roberto Duran who is more hungery than Pryor. He fought guys the champion at MW and made it a closer fighter then people though it was.

SRR fought Duran 3 time the rematch was his for sure. He knew Roberto Duran habits and used it against him.

Pryor at the time ray fough Hearns was not even heard of by the media etc...It was the meteoric rise in fame when he beat Arguello, as Arugello was favored to win and everybody liked him, he was a class act. When Pryor stopped him then he became a household name. Had he fought Arguello before Ray retired and after He had already beaten hearns (ray that is) then we would have a reason to suggest to ray he should have fought pyror...Howevr that is like saying Mayweather is ducking Junior Witter. You hear him calling out mayweather now, but who has he beaten,,is he even a welterweight...So ray leonard had no reason to even entertain a challenge from mayweather in 81.....Hell he just beat benitez, and duran (2 fights) was know about to fight hearns,,,,I mean dammm what more is Leoanrd supposed to do..somethign crazy like move up and fight Hagler...Hmmmm he did that too.

Ray gets no love from people...The question should be why didnt Duran stop an fight him at jr welter instead of skipping on over it..Or wy after Pryor beat Arguello and hearns was looking for a foe didnt pryor and hearns get it on...

Yup, agree 100%.. How could he have ducked Pryor in turn to fight an all time great?

People (me as well) love Pryor for the way that he fought. That was enough for me; I don't need to justify his greatness with fantasy match-ups.
