Pryor defeated Hearns as an amateur and Ray Leonard plain refused to fight him.
There was also a rumour that Pryor had some form of stimulant in his Drinking bottle for one of the Arguello fights.

Pryor was avoided like the plague. He would have been my pick against Leonard, Duran and maybe Hearns. As skills pointed out, he outclassed Hearns in the AMs.
Arguello is also a great fighter, though overlooked by many I'm afraid.
You shouldn't recklessly throw out that Duran or CHavez was the best lightweight ever without giving Pryor an honorable mention.

I wasn't aware of that. Sounds fishy.

Panama Lewis was in Pryor's corner in the first Arguello fight and he kept asking for "the black bottle that I mixed".

They said it was vodka but we will really never know. That being said anyone that had a problem with it was quickly silenced in the rematch.

Pryor asked Ray for that fight, when ray discussing His upcoming fight with Hearns...If anyone would like to check boxrec.com you can see that Pryor at that time had not beaten anyone of significance except for a 35 year old 10 loss Cervantez who had already been beated by Benitez. Leonard retired form boxing 11/9/82 due to retinal injury, which if anyone wants to know, this is the very reason why Pyror is blind in one eye today. Pyror did not beat Arguello until after that, and this was very questionable due to the mysterious bottle.

Pryor was a great talent, who unfortunately came along at a unfortunate time. He was not even a blimp on the screen when he openly challenged ray, in fact the only reason he was at the meeting was because ray brought him there. He and ray were very very very good friends. I do believe that if ray had not retired and Pryor not gotten on coke, that they would have met up. This IMO would have been a very easy win for Leonard, bad balance bad defense, he is a great swarmer, but has no head movment and leonard hits harder, faster and is much bigger than Arguello. Pryor has not beaten anyone at jr Welterweight or any weight for that matter that was at therir most effeicient weight, was a great fighter and in their prime. We simply dont know what we have in Pryor he did not get tested.

Great stuff about the first fight with Alexis, shows Pryor calling out leonard in that confrence aswell as the water bottle incident.

Hearns as an amateur and Hearns as a Pro where two completley different fighters, and it was a somewhat close fight...Hearns did not have the power in the amateurs. He would slaughter Pyror...Very bad mismatch for Pryor, basedon the fact that Hearns developed the best right hand in the business and a great left hook, pyror defense is simply leaning back from punches or bending over at the waiste..very bad when you face person with tremendous reach advantage and a left hook.

Just imagine if Ray had fought Aaron pryor instead of Tommy Hearns...who was the wba welterweight champion and pryor had not yet beaten arguello, and never was a welter nor faced a welter yet.
