Witter got spot when Castillo lost, but how did Castillo get that spot?
not really. 138 isn't a weight class.
check again but weight classes go 135, 140, 147 etc
true 138 is above 135 the lightweight, but 138 is not Junior Welterweight. its not even an official weight class. its a catch weight.

Piggy your correct that Junior Witter moved up to #1 when Castillo lost to Hatton. that is a factual statement.
but so is this. Castillo only got ranked #1 in 140 because Miguel Cotto the previous #1 moved up to Welterweight.
in fact at the end of 2006 Cotto had his first Welter fight.
so that makes the #2 ranked 140 pd contender Jose Luis Castillo move up to Miguel Cotto's previous spot.
just like that .. without a single fight, Castillo was already ranked #2 .. and moved up to #1. thus making the Hatton vs Castillo fight a fight vs Hatton's #1 ranked challenger
(which you correctly said Hatton did beat the #1 ranked challenger)
and again I think Castillo was ranked highest by the Ring.
(so if the Ring is the only 1 ranking Castillo so high, how is it legit?)
what other boxing sources and etc besides the Ring regarded Castillo highly as a Junior Welterweight?
so that fits into how Hatton defended his title against the #1 Challenger
1. Castillo started off ranked #2
2. Miguel Cotto the previous #1 left the weight class
making Castillo #1.
sure these statements are whole heartedly true "Hatton has already defended his Ring belt against the number one ranked contender as judged by The Ring."
but the fact that Castillo started off ranked #2 in the weight class .. and only moved up when Cotto left its more right place right time for Jose Luis.
and what ever legitimacy Castillo had as a #1 contender was erased IMO opinion after Castillo's terrible performance January 20th
*funny how all HBO could say was that Castillo wasn't trying, took his foot off the gas, etc all the excuses to cover for his poor performance
you don't have to agree with the above, and I wasn't on here when either Herman/Castillo or Castillo/Hatton happened
but seeing that fight (Herman vs Castillo), eliminated any credibility Castillo had being #1 by anyone let alone the Ring. and I fully went into the Castillo/Hatton fight expecting it to not last long and be very one sided.
yeah Witter is #1 now because of that Castillo loss to Hatton.
but the difference between Witter and Castillo is that Junior Witter has a belt, and is relatively established as a 140 pounder (already mentioned but victories over Corley, Lovemore and Harris) .. again its not hall of fame worthy stuff .. but 140 is a shallow division, and 2 of the named opponents (Lovemore & Harris) were ranked top 10.
.. where Castillo basically just slipped into the #2 spot without doing anything .. you can't argue that, because it did happen.
yes Witter's a prick, but he does have longevity at the weight class, which I do respect.
can you at least give Witter that? and his record is pretty good actually.
