Who did Castillo beat at 140 before the Herman Ngoudjo
fight? who? the fight right after the Castillo/Corrales 3rd fight fiasco was not at Junior Welterweight it says 138 via www.boxingtimes.com

and even if Castillo did have 2 random fights at 140 I doubt he fought anyone of signifigance or any note.

and so what Floyd was ranked #1 at 147. before fighting Mitchell. its a completely different scenario and here's why

Mayweather had beaten the best at Lightweight and had a pretty good run at 140 .. throw in the fact that he is undefeated and dominated a majority of the opponents he faced .. why not rank him #1 .. with the acception of Castillo in the first fight, Mayweather whooped on people

Piggy fair or not one could assume that the 7 extra pounds as a Welterweight really wouldn't make that big a difference on Floyd and he would continue to dominate, even as a Welterweight. hell look how he took out Mitchell.

"It often happens that the number one guy in a weight class becomes top ten rated when he moves up in weight, it wasn't just Castillo who was considered number one contender in their new weight without them having to fight there."

Okay valid point, Castillo isn't the only one to be ranked top 10. thank you for bringing that to my attention.

But why rank him all the way at #2? Castillo would move up to #1 because of Cotto moving to Welterweight.

and still even then, after seeing Castillo in his first fight at that new weight class vs Herman. would you honestly say that Castillo is deserving of such a high ranking? (im saying after the sub par performance)

the only reason im bringing up Hatton, is because he was Castillo's opponent (and also managed to be ranked top 10 without any fights at the weight class).

I don't care about the Collazo fight its over and done with and if Collazo was in the top 10 and Hatton beat him, then that should put Ricky in the top 10.

Hatton still ran into a ring post vs Mayweather, so its all good. and the Mayweather fight is a bit more current.

Oddly enough though Luis Collazo has still maintained top 10 status as a Welterweight in EVERY sanctioning organization, plus Ring Magazine .... and all he's done in 2007 was get handled by Shane Mosley.

i couldn't give a monkeys for the reasons that hatton wont give witter a shot.

i as a boxing fan just want to see the fight, i believe hatton would win and this fight would be popular in britain, grudge fights always are!

all to often politics and behind the scene bickering, as well as flagrant cherry picking are the reasons we the public miss out on fights we all wont to see.

Alas we things wont change soon i imagine.

just to point this out. 138 is over the lightweight limit at 135 so therefore in that fight Castillo was a light-welter.

Well the Ring seemed to think him worthy of the number one spot. In any case let's look at what you're really getting at here:

People are trying to discredit Hatton for not fighting the number one contender (let's forget for a moment that it is less than a month after Hatton suffered a devastating stoppage loss at a higher weight at the hands of the best fighter in the world pound for pound). Hatton has already fought the number one contender in his last fight at 140 lbs. Whether or not you like it, or it fits your current modus operandi (ie "HATTON IS TEH SUX LOLZ!1oneone") Hatton has already defended his Ring belt against the number one ranked contender as judged by The Ring.

My point is therefore utterly valid. If Hatton were to fight and beat Junior Witter this Saturday, by Monday Malignaggi would be the number one contender. The trouble with beating the number one contender is that there tends to be a different number one contender along very quickly thereafter.

Ask youself this: What happened to allow Witter to get the number one contender spot? Castillo got knocked out, that's when Witter got the top spot.

witter is unbeaten in ten years and has done everything asked of him, he's earned his title the hard way and put in an impressive performance last time out, **** all this ring magazine number 1 contender ****, witter is a bona fide world champ who practically lives on rickys doorstep the fight would be huge in the uk and do great business and i cant see american tv not being interested now so valid reasons for ricky not taking the fight?

He hasn't STFU yet, that's been asked of him and he's failed to do so.

Do you think that a fight with Witter would be more lucrative than a fight with Malignaggi?

malignaggi has been brutalised by cotto so that takes some of the appeal out of a hatton fight, i'll be honest hatton v witter is far more appealing and would sell out any venue in the uk so would also be financially viable.

I'm so glad Money May gave this fool a boxing masterclass. Refusing to fight a boxer because they dissed you is probably the most girly thing a fighter can do.

Hatton v Witter could do alright but it could do with being built up. Let's have Hatton v Malignaggi at MSG with Witter on the undercard to build a fight with Witter later in the year.
