This is part of the reason a lot of fans get turned off from boxing and look to other things such as the UFC. This is why boxing takes so much criticism, and other than hard core fans not many people follow boxing.
    Actually and ironically, it was two-fold. It was Mayweather chasing the fight that he'd always craved due to reasons that would benefit him both financially and in terms of legacy, which was a fight with De La Hoya. Please get your facts straight.. Firstly, they wouldn't even let Floyd breath, trying to finalize a fight by April when Floyd had a sprained hand from the Judah fight and was weighting options. Margarito was not a draw and Mayweather at the time was looking to split from Bob Arum due to what he termed, "cutting out the middle man", as he felt used. He wanted to break free from Arum and make a fight with De La Hoya on his own terms, without giving Bob a percentage of course. Only after he turned down Arum's offer and split from him/bought him out, did De La Hoya make a decision and say he wasn't going to fight Floyd that year so Mayweather was stuck and had to pick an opponent to stay active and he had many options. He was even going to fight Spinks (a much better opponent at that time, who just beat Karmazin) but fans wanted to see him fight Baldomir, so he did for more money than Marg, and then got his dream match with DLH. What's the problem? Marg wasn't in demand, it was that simple though a bit more to it as well..

      It seems that everyone except one person admits that Cotto's competition at 147 is more significant than PBF.

      UD- Cotto

            You can't even bring Hatton into this b/c they haven't fought yet, nor can you about the rest of their careers since it is about one division.

            * Prime Hatton >>> 36 year old Mosley
            * More fresh and prepared Judah >>>> Judah coming off a loss AND year lay off
            * Mitchell >>> Urkal
            * Baldomir >>>> Quintana
            Come on, Judah was coming off a lost when he fought floyd but you can completely ignore that? And IMO the layoff probably helped him get it all back together, he didn't show any signs of ring rust or anything.
