Calzaghe: Verbal Assault

Who cares what they weighed? Oscar was, at his best, a LIGHTWEIGHT and a WELTERWEIGHT, and Trinidad was a WELTERWEIGHT for 90% of his career. I suppose you think Trinidad is a viable light heavy now, just because he "weighs" 175?ODH weighed in at 156 and Hopkins weighed 155.
Felix Trinidad weighed in at 157 and Hopkins 158.
Tarver was considered at the time one of the best fighters P4P, and most people picked Tarver to win easily.
There is no comparison between Hopkins resume and Calzaghes; it's clear Hopkins has a far more impressive one, "little men" opponents or not.
Not to take anything away from Joe because he is a great fighter, but Kessler and lacey are really the only big names on his list.Comment

I see alot of revisionism in this thread, i honestly feel like alot of you guys have only been around the sport the last couple years to say the **** youre saying, tarver was expected to basically knock the **** out of hopkins and put him out, tarver was the favorite, like i said in another thread, tito was not too small for middleweight, was anyone saying that **** when he was scoring knockouts at that weight? or when hopkins was a major underdog in that fight? let me guess, tito was past it and was all hype? yea right.
some of you guys are so full of ****, joe himself is full of ****, he knows for a fact what those fights meant and hes talking out of his ass to get a fight on. but for some of you to give credibility to **** like "tarver was past it" "tito was too small" come on man, if you have been around the sport more than a few months, you remember the circumstances of those fights, and none of you people were saying those things for the most part when they happened. You guys are so full of ****.Comment

I mean at the time of when they fought Hopkins.
You understand what I mean?
If they were the same skill , age as when they fought Borenard.
I reckonTito & Oscar would lose to these 3.
But they wouldn't get any credit.
So why does Borenard ?
It doesn't make sense.Comment

winky, oscar and tito are naturally smaller than hopkins. you point out the weight but im pretty sure by fight night oscar would not go much above 160. hopkins is a big guy at 6 foot 1 i think it was. maybe 6 foot. trinidad, oscar and winky are more 154 guys if you ask me. is that fair to say?The hate for Hopkins a living legend is crazy!
First off, the argument that Hopkins fought smaller fighters is invalid, because they had to make the weight didn't they? It's not as if Hopkins out-weighed them by 20 pounds and as I already posted, Hopkins weighed one less pound than ODH and one more pound than Trinidad.
If they truly were better than Hopkins they would have beat him, just like the "smaller" Floyd Mayweather beat the "bigger' ODH.
Second, No One has ever said that Hagler was only good because he beat smaller opponents (sugar ray and duran). Again, SRL and Duran had to make the same weight.
Third, these fighters CHOSE to fight Hopkins at that weight. Should Hagler/Bernard turned down the biggest fights of their lives because some critics would say "well they only beat smaller opponents"? LOL, I could only imagine Hagler saying, "I'm going to turn down this fight against Sugar Ray because I don't want to be critized for beating a smaller man."
Fourth, LOL at Kessler being a bigger name than Trinidad, Tarver, Oscar de la Hoya, Winky Wright!!
Fifth, who ****ing cares? Calzaghe/Hopkins are BOTH living legends and rather than arguing who has the better resume, we should all hope that they do eventually fight, as it would be great for the sport of boxing.
so in terms of those guys are little men. he is correct. in terms of resume hopkins has more with eastman, oscar, tarver, winky and 2 loses to taylor.
although out of those 5 i feel persoanlly 3 of them are a lot smaller than him. i mean winky went to 170 to fight hopkins lol.Comment

tarver was good. not a great but he is a good boxer. agaisnt someone who is of the same size as him, aka taylor he lost both fights. i mean if you really look at hopkinds records, it's good but not great.I see alot of revisionism in this thread, i honestly feel like alot of you guys have only been around the sport the last couple years to say the **** youre saying, tarver was expected to basically knock the **** out of hopkins and put him out, tarver was the favorite, like i said in another thread, tito was not too small for middleweight, was anyone saying that **** when he was scoring knockouts at that weight? or when hopkins was a major underdog in that fight? let me guess, tito was past it and was all hype? yea right.

joe is 2 inches shorter than him max. joe fights good at smw where as i feel oscar, tito and winky fight ebst at welter and 154. 160 is their max weight where as hopkidns was always higher.Comment
