Does anyone have a good argument for Cotto?

I haven't seen one. Even the guys picking him to win seem to only point out that Shane is 36 and has to slow down sometime. I've seen a ton of great points in Mosley's favor - "he's faster, stronger, a better boxer, better chin, etc..." Is it just that there is no good argument for Cotto? Does Shane really have to get old overnight to lose here? I want to hear why the people picking Cotto think he'll win.

I do, and it involves using the jab and working inside. Not letting Mosley dictate the pace, where he can get comfortable and land power combos. I really dont feel like making a long post about it, but that's the gist of it.

See SSM is Stronger Faster Better Chin and has great stamina. Cotto is a great Brawler. I just dont think Cotto is smart enough. SSM also has those advantages over PBF but only diffrence is PBF is a smart fighter. Cotto is a typical come foward body puncher. I don't see this type of fighter beating SSM. Many like myself are hopeing that Cotto wins but in reality its just hard to see this. Cotto's leg will play the most important role in this fight.

Can't really think of one. Except inside fighting with body shots. Other than that I would say Mosley has the advantages in all facets of the game. Cotto can box no doubt but he'll have to brawl with Mosley to win. I doubt he can win on points.

I definitely think Cotto's smart enough. He can adjust in fights, and has shown the ability to do so before. If he loses it will be because he cant overcome Mosley's physical advantages (hand speed, one punch power, foot speed, long reach etc.).

Cotto can use his jab effectively if he gives Mosley angles, and has him on his back foot. If Cotto doesn't use tactical aggression (hands up, cutting off the ring, jabbing inside) he'll get countered and possibly knocked out. If he lets Mosley dictate the pace, he'll get overwhelmed and possibly knocked out. What he needs to do is be cautious on the outside, use his jab, show head movement, and cut off the ring.

If Mosley comes forward a lot, which imo will be where he's at his most dangerous, Cotto needs to keep those hands up and not stay stationary. Once he gets inside, he neutralizes Shane's speed, and can go to work. In the later rounds Mosley would become less dangerous, not because of his age, but because he'll be taking hard punches consistently on the inside. Yes, some will stray low, yes some will land on the back. Then in the later rounds, I expect the uppercut to land for Cotto and really wear Mosley out.

It's a tall order sure, but I seriously think he can do it. At the same time, it wouldn't shock me if he didn't because he is going to get hit, and he will have to absorb big punches again. There's my explanation though.

So much for not writing a long post lol.

I believe Mosley's speed and power as of now are overrated by the majority of users in this forum. He could not hurt a one-handed Collazo who was dropped by Ricky Hatton. Apart from Vargas (who has had extensive health issues), he has not KOd a good opponent in quite some time. Cotto, with his resilience, heart, and stamina, has shown that he has more than what it takes to stand up to whatever amount of punishment he receives. Ricardo Torres and Zab Judah have just as much, if not more, punching power than Shane right now. Cotto took FLUSH shots from them, always appearing to be hurt, yet in both cases he went on to destroy them. So that, in my opinion, makes it clear that Shane will not knock him out, because Miguel has shown he can withstand punishment from big punchers.

Even in the first Vargas fight, we saw that against a pressure fighter, Shane can have some problems. Cotto hits much harder than Vargas ever did, especially to the body. He always comes forward and has shown he can adapt exceptionally well to other boxers' styles, which is why I belive he will stalk and hurt Shane just like he has every other opponent he has faced.

Cotto is a relentless body puncher with tremendous power. Like that dude said in Rocky 4 regarding Ivan Drago, "whatever he hits, he destroys". Look at every guy Cotto has fought, and every single one of them got the worst beating in their career against him. Shane is gonna be a game opponent, no doubt about that, but ever since this fight began being discussed I have felt that Cotto would win because of everything I just explained here.

For Cotto to win, he will have to GET INSIDE. Sure, he'll get some hits, naturally, but if he's inside, and most likely he will be the one pushing Mosley backwards, once Mosley jumps away and jabs, pressure him at that second to the body, rinse and repeat. If Cotto manages to stay inside, and push Mosley backward, he'll win.
