I also say he was a good fighter. ELITE is top of the food chain, if you beat this man you have a name on your resume people will always go back to when speaking about your accomplishments in the ring.

Well, if I recall correctly, from 92 to 97 he held the LW WBC belt. I remember how he was being touted when he fought Oscar and Tszyu....always a "great Mexican champion." So I would place him in the elite category during his years of championship reign. But, I guess reasonable minds could differ based upon your own interpretation of the term "elite."Comment

I consider him to be a good champion. But he comes from a long line of guys that only hold the belt for a short period of time. I know, by the facts that you posted that he held it for 5 years, but I cannot really think of any great names on his resume at the moment. There is a line between being good and great.
