Sad thing about Floyd...

Of course.. People don't remember media hype or disgruntled boxing fans complaining on some obscure web forum. 10 years from now they'll simply remember Floyd's resume and track record.I think Floyd will his credit when he starts to get old. Then he will become a kind of James Toney at the higher weight classes, get hit more often, and make more competitive full-contact fights.
Personally I loved watching Pernell fight, and Floyd is fun to watch too. I think he'll get his long-lasting credit as time goes on.Comment

Why get knocked out if your winning each round, why try to knock someone out if there loseing each round. Floyds approach is tactical and early in his career he was the guy to try and KO you, but he has evolved, into something most people dont like however he is winning and thats really what its all about! Right?Comment

Bernard did what he had to do and what he has been doing since the William Joppy fight. That's be crafty, avoid punches, and be dirty on the inside.. Winky's mistake was his aggression, where he'd leave him self open trying to hit Hopkins with jab after jab even when Hopkins easily avoided it. That isn't his style and he doesn't cut off the ring like a natural pressure fighter, nor is he athletic enough to keep Hopkins at bay. Boring fight, but dramatic at the same time and B-hop put on a good performance imo by using what he still had left to beat a very good fighter..
What did that have to do with anything?Comment

if you devalue your reign, over the long run, you ultimately are devaluing your asking price of those who pay to see you. or more to the point: Those who may very well stay away. Why get knocked out if your winning each round, why try to knock someone out if there loseing each round. Legacy translates into dollars.
Sugar Ray Leonard was going to make a lot of money without taking on the challenges he did. He made MORE money by taking on those challenges.
Does Mayweather HAVE the opp out there for him that SRL had in the 80's? No. But there are more attractive matchups for him to take that would translate in to more money and as a side affect of that, builds value to his legacy.
I'm not a fan of Oscar De La Hoya, but like SRL, he could make lots of money taking on Pat Chapentier 3 times a year. But if that ALL he ever faced, eventually that cash cow gets milked dry. He knew that he had to start facing the Whitakers and Quartey's and Trinidads and Mosley's to A- make even MORE money. And B- to keep that fan insterest in him as a Championship level fighter who took on the bigger names.Comment
