The ref should have given an count...Just like he allowed Pavlik to chicken dance the entire second round...

if you noticed taylors gloves or knees didnt touch the canvas so how can the referee count. pavlik went all the way down when taylor got him.

You guys are missing my point.
I thought it was pointless to stop the fight while Taylor was falling down.
It didnt make sense.
What he should have done was allow Taylor to fall, like he did, then see if he could get up, which he probably wouldnt have.
Premature is probably a bad word, but I think that stoppage could have gone better.

When your only support is the ropes, that is technically a knockdown.
SO, what the ref should have done, is either interviened and ruled it a KD, or allowed Taylor to fall (Taylor was in the process of falling to the canvas when smoger stepped in).
Regardless, I dont think it would have affected the outcome of the fight.

Taylor was out and the punishment he would have taken after that wouldn't have been good. I felt like it was a good stoppage he crumbled to the canvas and usually that isn't good. Plus as far as I know Taylor didn't complain about the stoppage.

I would have like to seen the action stopped. THEN a good look at him. He was KOed but ive seen many times they will get a 3 or 4 count. It wasnt like those 5 secs. meant anything. The fight was over. It would have "looked" better to the fans.

Without a doubt the stoppage was incorrect
JT wasnt given the benefit of the doubt that Pavlik was given in round 2.
Would JT have gotten up and made a comeback?

Smoger stepped in between the fighters right as Jermain fell down, which makes absolutly ZERO sense.
My thought is that the kid fought his ass off and deserved the oppourtounity to get up and fight back. Chances are he would have gotten stopped, chances are he wouldnt have won, but being the middleweight champ of the world, Taylor deserves the benefit of the doubt.

once again, im not denying that Taylor was done, he would have lost the fight regardless, I just dont think the fight was stopped in the appropriate manner.

i was at teh fight teh ref asked him if he couldnt continue he shook his head no
