I would have like to seen the action stopped. THEN a good look at him. He was KOed but ive seen many times they will get a 3 or 4 count. It wasnt like those 5 secs. meant anything. The fight was over. It would have "looked" better to the fans.

      Agreed.

Once a boxer stops throwing punches and adequately defending himself it is the referees responsibility to stop the fight.

Also, keep in mind Taylor not only sat on the canvas after the fight was stopped but also never once looked like he was shifting into protest mode.

Whoever talked about a "standing 8 count," Taylor went to the floor?? And I'm assuming there was a "no standing 8 count" rule in effect, as there usually is in world title fights? Therefore getting caught on the ropes with no way of falling over is the most dangerous place to be. Tough **** for Taylor, but he did end up going down when Smoger stepped between them, and wasn't making ANY attempt at getting up. Perfect stoppage.
He could have been given a count as it is part of the game that a fighter who is held up by the ropes is considered knocked down. But it's rare that a fighter would get a count in that situation, it's more if they are knocked backwards into the ropes they would get a count, not if they take punishment against the ropes.

            probably not

My thought is that the kid fought his ass off and deserved the oppourtounity to get up and fight back. Chances are he would have gotten stopped, chances are he wouldnt have won, but being the middleweight champ of the world, Taylor deserves the benefit of the doubt.

            Thoughts?????
He was given the benefit of the doubt. He was throwing nothing back, and it was stopped at the right time... as conclusive a stoppage as there can be.

If the ref let pavlik to continue pounding on jermain after that left uppercut, it may have caused a permanent damage. This way, taylor continue to live for another fight or probably a rematch.

I like to see a ten count, but in this circumstance it couldn't have changed anything.
