Why stop there? Floyd beats Ali! I'm absolutely convinced. He may be a bit smaller.. so what? The power and speed makes it a no contest. Maybe somebody in the UFC could get to Floyd, but nobody in boxing. The pundits got this one right. Floyd is without doubt the GOAT. Period.

        1) i ll remind you since you dont seem to know about these guidelines (like the only judge who scored the bout in favor of De La Hoya, who wrote something about scoring where defense does not exist in HIS opinion and aggression was important, wether it was effective or not), fights are scored based one:
        -Clean, Hard Punching
        -Effective Aggression
        -Ring Generalship
        -Defense

        2) What other fighter of this generation would be close to Mayweather?

        3) Mayweather not better than Tyson? Are you being remotely close to the shores of seriousness. Tyson is possibly not even a top 10 HW, Mayweather is top 5 @130, top 10@135, top 10 @140 and that's being conservative

I agree what the guidelines for fights are and i am very aware of them and have been for a long time...BUT

        you have to consider this...

Imagine if Oscar did NOT keep stalking mayweather; hunting him down and then standing right in front of him practically giving mayweather chances to fight.

        1. you know what would have happened...there wouldnt have been a fight...

if oscar didnt make the fight mayweather would have ran all night while (from time to time) sticking the jab and more running...it wouldnt have been much of a fight it would have a been like watching andre dirrel vs. mayweather...it would be a run and potshot fest.

i have a hard time scoring a fight in favor of a runner...

im not saying moving effectively and boxing...thats what malignaggi did to ndou to win the title...he didnt run...mayweather was running and just jabbing (from time to time) to make it look like he was doing something with an occasional hook and right...oscar was doing most of the work and he was definately showing (to me) that he wanted to retain his title and win the fight MUCH MORE than mayweather wanted to win it...it appeared mayweather was just going out there to collect a nice paycheck and go home so he can talk more trash.

most of oscar's punching didnt land BUT the punches were definately hard punches.

his aggression was effective in the sense he was able to back mayweather into the ropes and get in some good clean shots...

mayweather did use the ring well...very well...but de la hoya also tracked him down majority of the time and had mayweather running...

        defense definately goes to mayweather.

i believe de la hoya won 115-113 BUT i could see a draw (due to the conflicting styles) but i cant see 8 round to 4 rounds for mayweather...thats definately exaggerated. as i said though i still believe oscar and jose luis castillo won. remember though...since (especially) vegas judges wont score even rounds and all close rounds are easier to see for the current p4p champ things are a tad corrupt...

admit it...when a round is close its easier to give it to the champ...i would rather score it even.

and last but not least...at the time of the fight oscar was the champion and i firmly believe to BE the champ you MUST BEAT the champ and mayweather didnt do that...

and i dont HATE mayweather...i HATE his fanboys...and i HATE his trashtalking but once the bell rings for the first round to the last bell of the last round he's great...but he's no ali...

and before anyone says anything about beating the champ to be the champ...i wont give hatton the fight on december 8th unless he decisively beats mayweather (since mayweather is the champ).

i dont judge fights being bias at all...for the record i personally like taylor much better than winky but i scored the fight 115-113 for winky wright...just as an example.

        2. Sugar shane mosley is a great of this generation
bernard hopkins is a great of this generation
oscar de la hoya is a great of this generation
roy jones jr. is a great of this generation

thats just off the top of my head...and i know they are past their prime (most of them) BUT that doesnt mean they dont qualify...

mayweather is not #1 of all time nor is he #1 of this generation...a top 3 of this generation; sure...but not top 3 of all time...he doesnt break top 10 of all time on my list. he's high on the list of all time but not that close...not yet at least he needs to do some more against some more greats of this generation in my opinion.

        3. in my opinion mayweather isnt better than tyson overall...but remember thats comparing a slick welterweight (natural lightweight actually) to a heavyweight so you cant really compare handspeed or power obviously but overall i dont think he is...not yet at least.

tyson may not break top 10 of all time in heavyweight BUT for decades the heavyweight division was what the welterweight divison has become today and there were dozens of top heavyweights in the history so its not as fair in my opinion.

as far as mayweather being a top this or that i dont disagree...he's in one of the top in those divisions and he may be higher than that...but he's not the best of all time...in my opinion at least...he has some wins against great fighters to accomplish...

Also, you say that those two wins were definately gift decisions? I mean, how definate is that? Was there absolutely no way that anyone in their right mind could give those fights to Mayweather unless they were bribed?

What an absurd statement... numerous people scored the fight for Floyd outside of message board ****s and the official judges. Harold Lederman scored the De La Hoya fight for Floyd. Dan Rafael of ESPN scored Castillo I for Floyd. I agree that they were close fights, however...

Close fights are not gift decisions, no matter which way they go.

When a fight is 115-113 in your view... is it not conceivable that a judge saw two rounds differently than you did? Could they prefer effective aggressiveness to clean effective punching in a round, or how about ring generalship instead of aggressivenes? I understand your post is mostly a shoutout to the people who shoot their fingers off on their keyboard without giving their posts a thought in the world, but when you write such extreme posts (as in they are all the way on one side without room for argument), then you become no better.

Hater posts are no better than fanboy posts.
chuck giampa IS one of the best judges but he was off that night.

maybe a gift is an overstatement but it the final decisions in those fights were definately wrong...not really a robbery but definately they got it wrong.

like i said though...i dont hate mayweather...i hate is trash talking (that is no more than talk because he doesnt walk the walk so its annoying) and i hate the fanboys but i dont hate him...once the bout starts he's really good but i hate people exaggerating...just like the pacquiao fans do...

          truth is:
          mayweather is the p4p champ.
          he is a great boxer
but not the greatest of all time.

period and i think (if you are not being bias) thats true.

Floyd take over Ali's crown? Please. Mayweather would have to stand on his momma's shoulders just to kiss Ali's ass.

If Floyd is the GOAT, like everyone says on this cite. Then he's got to be able to beat Ali cause Ali is the real GOAT. Otherwise, he can't be the GOAT. It only makes sense that the GOAT would have to be able to beat everybody to be the GOAT, or he's not the GOAT. Got it? So, it just makes sense that Floyd beats Ali. The power and speed are just too much.

Floyd isn't even the best of the last 20 years, let alone all-time. Those people claiming him to be the GOAT need to wait until they've grown some hairs before they state such an outlandish opinion.

That's a conjecture, you cannot base your scoring of a fight on how you think it would have gone IF this or IF that. You score fights based on what actually happens and nothing else.

So you are saying you scored based on your impression of what was going on Mayweather's mind. That has nothing to do with clean hard punches, effective aggression, defense or ring generalship.

His aggression was ineffective in that all he got in, was a few flurries of arms punches to the body, while Mayweather countered him.

majority of the time Oscar was chasing Mayweather, who moved around the ring, I dont know why you would call movement running. Most of the time Mayweather would just take small steps to adjust his position realtive to Oscar, not just in terms of distance, but also in terms of angle.

Fights are scored based on rounds, I did not see that many close rounds. Legit scores are IMO 8-4, 7-5 for Floyd or, stretching it, a Draw. i dont see which 7 rounds Oscar could have possibly won.

Fighters that should be mentioned with Mayweather are Jones, Hopkins and Toney, and they definitely are from a different generation (8-12 years older). As far as Mosley and Oscar, Mayweather is on a different level in pretty much everything, results, skills and so on. Oscar and Shane are excellent fighters but they lack the ring IQ that Mayweather (or Jones or Toney or Hopkins) has.

He is clearly #1 of this "generation" see above, but all these arguments are sketchy, especially when it come to greatest of all time. With modern boxing no fighter should ever be considered for greatest ever, because they just dont fight enough and they dont fight the right fights (I always write this, but to see what I am saying think how many fight between Hopkins, Jones and Toney we would have seen in the 50s-60s.)

I see what you are saying but I dont think Mayweather is top 5 at 147, and most likely not even top 10.

I dont think he is the best of all time either, it's probably impossible.

I am pretty thrilled by the idea that he is achieving a lot but I doubt that he can seal it. If he ruled 147 (as in beating a few of the top fighters/unifying) I would be amazed and he might be the greatest fight of the big money era (80s and after).

Sometimes "historians" get things so distorted it is CRAZY. They are in love with the history of it, the lore, like when they say Duran KO'd a horse with one punch, like it means something in boxing. And certain people follow the historians and take their words as gospel. It's crazy to me. WATCH the guy fight. Watch Jefrries. If you still think he woul dhave any chance with Ali afterwards.....then I will know not to even reply to you anymore
