Sometimes "historians" get things so distorted it is CRAZY. They are in love with the history of it, the lore, like when they say Duran KO'd a horse with one punch, like it means something in boxing. And certain people follow the historians and take their words as gospel. It's crazy to me. WATCH the guy fight. Watch Jefrries. If you still think he woul dhave any chance with Ali afterwards.....then I will know not to even reply to you anymore

Then again, boxing historians tend to be more knowledgable about the sport than most fans. Typically I see maybe one intelligent post for every three ignorant ones on boxing forums. Most fans are just that: Fans. They don't really know ****e about the sport and tend to be ignorant about anything that happend before they started watching, hence their inane posts.

You have to be able to differentiate what "knowledge" is. Historiants have knowledge of dates, times and places...but I dont see many whose opinion on in the ring activities really amount to much than most fans

I've seen the extant films of Jeffries. Ali has no chance fighting Jeffries in the brutal fights of that era. Shoot, Ali would most likely have avoided that kind of thing like the plague! 30 rounds?! 3 ounce gloves?! Give it up man! The fighters of that era came from a different cloth. The overprotected and spoiled modern athlete has no chance. No chance.

Floyd Mayweather may be the only fighter in history who could have won a world title on professional debut. After his first few fights, against Apodaca and Reggie Sanders, it was evident that Floyd had natural talent. His talent was always there to see and since his early fights he has developed arguably the greatest defence in the history of boxing.

It is obvious that Castillo beat Floyd Mayweather in there first fight, but counting the fight as a loss for Floyd, he is still heading for high grounds. After recently disposing of De La Hoya, Gatti, Baldomir, Mitchell and Judah, Floyd is a level above the best fighters of the current generation.

When being in the middle of an exchange, Floyd unlike any other boxer, can stop throwing punches, and not get to badly hurt by his opponent. His right arm stops body shots and his head is positioned a considerable distance from his opponent making it hard for their shots to have power on impact and hurt Floyd. Combining that with lighting hand speed, his attacking skills are diverse and the best in the world, yet not as good as his defensive skills.

If Floyd beats Hatton in December, he would have dominated this current period in boxing. To further the case for Floyd being considered on high grounds, near the greatest of all, this current period in the lower weights in which Floyd fights is at the highest standard it has ever been. Never have fighters in the lower division posessed power, speed and stamina like they do in this current period.

Its ironic that when the boxing community see greatness they can try to tarnish a fighters image and reputation. Floyd's arrogance may offend and annoy a few supporters, but we have to judge him on what he does in the ring and that is something very very unique.

Expect Floyd to make a mess of Ricky Hatton. Hatton will be stopped in the middle to late rounds. Simply, Ricky has never fought someone with Floyd's defence and he will be unable to tire Floyd by the constant holding. But when Floyd beats Hatton, will we continue to say "Hatton was not that good" and will we continue to line up Floyd's next fight for him and disrespect him by saying his next opponent will win by knock out. Its time we recognize the greatness of Floyd, and accept his cemented legacy as one of boxings greats. If he continues to fight big names like Hatton and win another four bouts against these big names, Floyd may very well overtake Ali as the greatest fighter of all time.

That is all just silly talk Floyd being greater then Ali ect...BTW Floyd is not even close to DLH the only man to hold titles in 6 weight classes...

P4P Floyd would have gotten eaten alive by a prime Leonard, Hearns ( who was faster and certainly stronger)...

Ray Robinson at WW was as unbeatable and perfect as any fighter could possibly be.....
